TERM 2 (2021-22)
QUADRILATERALS
SECTION A:
I. Choose the correct option in each:
1) In a quadrilateral, three angles are in the ratio 3:3:1 and the fourth
angle is 800 , then the other angles are

a) 1000, 1000, 800 b) 1200, 1200, 400

c) 1000, 1100, 700 d) 1100, 1100, 600
2) Which of the following is not true for a parallelogram?
a) Opposite sides are equal
b) Opposite angles are equal
c) Opposite angles are always bisected by the diagonals
d) Diagonals bisect each other
3) ABCD is a parallelogram. If its diagonals are equal, then the measure
of an∠ ABC is :
a) 600 b) 900 c) 750 d) 1200
4) ABCD is a rhombus such that ∠ ACB=400, then ∠ ADB is:
a) 700 b) 450 c) 500 d) 600
II. Answer the following :

5) Two opposite angles of a parallelogram are (60 – x)0 and ( 3x – 4)0.

Find the measure of each angle of the parallelogram.
6) If an angle of a parallelogram is two-thirds its adjacent angle, find
the angles of the parallelogram.
SECTION B:
7) ABCD is a parallelogram in which ∠ DAB = 700, ∠ DBC = 800 , calculate
angles CDB and ADB.

8) In the given figure, ABCD is a parallelogram with perimeter 40 cm, find

the values of x and y.

9) In the given figure, ABCD is a kite. Its diagonals intersect at ‘O’. If

∠ DAB=¿1120 and ∠ DCB = 640, find ∠ ODC and ∠ OBA .

10) Prove that the diagonals of a rectangle are equal.

SECTION C:
11) ABCD is a parallelogram. AB is produced to E so that BE = AB. Prove that ED
bisects BC.

12) In the given figure, ABCD is a parallelogram in which X and Y are the mid-
points of AB and DC respectively. AY and DX intersect in ‘P’ while CX and BY
intersect in Q. Show that quadrilateral PXQY is a parallelogram.
HOTS:
13) ABCD and PQRC are rectangles where Q is the mid-point of AC. Prove
1
that (i) DP = PC (ii) QR = 2 AB

14) Inthe given figure, ABCD is a parallelogram and line segments AX and CY
bisect ∠ A and ∠ C respectively. Prove that AX ∥ YC
SECTION D ( CASE STUDY)

1) Raj is having a triangular open space in his plot .He divided the land into
two parts by drawing the boundary PQ where PQ is parallel to BC. Point
P is the midpoint of the side AB. The other measures are given as AP = 7
cm, BC = 10 cm, AC = 11 cm and height of the triangle is 12 cm. Answer
the following questions:

i. Area of triangle ABC is

a. 50 cm2
b. 55 cm2
c. 60 cm2
d. 70 cm2
ii. Length of side PQ is
a. 5 cm
b. 6 cm
c. 8 cm
d. 12 cm
iii. Length of side AQ is
a. 7 cm
b. 5.5 cm
c. 6 cm
d. 6.5 cm
iv. Length of side PB is
a. 7 cm
b. 6 cm
c. 8 cm
d. 9 cm
(Answers: 60 cm2 , 5 cm , 5.5 cm , 7 cm )

ANSWERS:
1) b 2) c 3) b 4) c 5) 440, 1360, 440, 1360 6) 720, 1080, 720, 1080
7) 300, 800 8) x = 4, y = 5 9) 580, 340

Hints for proofs:

11) Prove that M is the mid-point of DE in ∆ ADE
Prove that ∆ MDC ≅ ∆ MEB
12) Prove that AXCY is a parallelogram ( Opp. Sides are equal and parallel)
Hence, PY ∥ XQ ---------------- (1)
Similarly, prove XBYD ia a parallelogram. So, XP ∥ QY……….(2)
13) Prove that QP ∥ AD (using corresponding angles CPQ and CDA)
Prove that P is the mid-point of DC in ∆ DCA
Then prove AB = 2 QR
14) Prove ∠ XAY = ∠ XCY from ∠A = ∠C
Prove ∠ BYC = ∠ XCY
