Guide Questions Response/s

How relevant and applicable were the course
contents in helping you enhance your I would like to extend my thanks and appreciation to my
competencies as 21st Century teacher? Flexible Learning Tutor, Dr. Omar Hussien, for the diligent
training and facilitating the course religiously. The course
has helped me in reevaluating my teaching practices and
provided me with knowledge enabling me to upgrade and
upskill my teaching. The activities in the modules that I have
worked on have helped me a lot to reflect and assess my
teaching practices, styles, and techniques. In the process I
acquired teaching skills that helps me adjust and be flexible
in teaching (as I am motivated to explore new things in
technology), enhance my positive attitude towards
different and varied techniques in facilitating learning and
classroom management and strengthen my values towards
my teaching profession.

The learnings I had in this course is very relevant at present.

It aided me during my blended class, I also borrowed some
styles that I learned from FLT Omar specially the Socratic
questioning and injecting humor in our session, I admire him
for that. I also applied the knowledge I have learned to
enhance my teaching performance which led me to acquire
skills in teaching. Some of the strategies and the entries in
module 1 is very applicable in our school, so I ended sharing
it with my colleagues during LAC sessions.

The main assignments and planning exercises have helped

me a lot to make my teaching a lot easier and organized.

Overall, I can say that the Guro21 Course is well worth it. I
can say that SEAMEO INNOTECH is successful in equipping
me with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values in the
21st century which in turn helped me to effectively facilitate
learning in my class. Now, I can proudly say that I am now a
good teacher after taking the course.

What significant learning insights did you gain

from the course? I realized that being a teacher does not require me to stop
learning new things and upskill my teaching. I need to live
with the idea of lifelong learning because it is only when I
open my mind to improvement and development will I say
that I am worthy to be called a teacher. I recognize the fact
that I need other people to effectively execute my plans and
realize my goals. Everything that I do should be well-
planned, together with a back-up plan in case of
unprecedented hindrances. No matter how big or
impossible a situation might be, setting a goal a day will
make me accomplish it gradually. Also, in the teaching
profession that I choose I need to be flexible, responsible,
and accountable of the things that I do. Finally, I realized
that all my learnings in this course will be nothing if I would
not share it with others. So, I will make it as my advocacy to
share my learnings with my colleagues because if we will
work together having the same vision and goal, then our
school can effectively cater the best way possible the needs
of the diverse learners that we have.

What challenges or difficulties did you

experience during the course? In the duration of the course, I really have difficulty in
managing my time in school and at home. But I did manage
and survived, thanks God.

In school I need to divide my time between catering

learners’ needs and the school’s tasks, paper works and the
intervening and unprecedented tasks and requests from the
school head. I was also busy with my bridging interventions
since there are lots of learner who are struggling in their
lessons. I also modify the printed modules and create
contextualized learning activity sheets for the struggling
learners. The time-consuming online class and demands of
learner’s need for assistance keep me away from
accomplishing the tasks in this course.

At home I have 6 children who are all students, so I need to

divide my time to assist them in accomplishing their
modules and performance tasks. I can only do my
assignments in this course during wee hours in the evenings
and weekends which is sometimes intervened by household
chores that I have. It was really challenging to accomplish all
the tasks on time. I can barely breath. But I find it exciting
and challenging in the positive way.

One example is the demo teaching assignment which I really

do not have the time to edit the video of my demo teaching
during LAC session, so I ended up using an excerpt of the
video from my online class since it is already ready-made.

Another challenge is the poor internet connectivity.

However, it can be fixed since I have the will.

But all is worth it. I learned a lot from the course, reading
the modules, even if I must sleep only 4 to 5 hours.

What areas related to 21st Century teaching

and learning do you still need to improve on I guess I need to improve on facilitating learning skills and
and why? techniques. I have a copy and guide in the module, but I
need to study them more so that I can effectively use them
on appropriate learners. I consider this as a never-ending
study considering the diverse learners that I have year after
year in teaching. I need to master the art of facilitating
learning since this is a trial-and-error process.
What can you say about your overall
experience (i.e. comment on chat, forum, At first, I am doubtful and anxious in taking the course.
course requirements, FLT competency, and However, I am glad I did take this course. I become excited
the online modality)? on our first chat session and ended up commenting more.
Then I anticipate with enthusiasm for the following chats. I
like the style of my FLT’s questioning technique during chats
and his inputs are commendable. I learned a lot from him. I
can say that my FLT is very competent in cascading learning
during the course, he is diligent and flexible. The forum
requirement is laborious in a good way since I must answer
all the activities in Modules 1 and 2, however, it was well
worth it for I have learned a lot from my own work and with
others too. The course requirements are appropriate,
relevant, and applicable in my line of work. The online
modality is okay.

Overall, I have a fruitful, productive, satisfying and

enlightening experience in this course.

Thank you, FLT Omar, and SEAMEO INNOTECH.

What are your other comments / suggestions

to improve the content coverage and future So far, I am satisfied with the content coverage and course
course deliveries? delivery. I can say that maybe, if time warrants, there may
be an additional critical incident in the modules that would
be suited to this time of pandemic to make it more
appropriately contextualized perhaps? I could really be
useful.
