The role of a special education teacher is to understand the strengths and weaknesses of

each child. It is our job to discover each student’s potential and incorporate individual learning

styles into the classroom. All students learn differently, and I plan to use various techniques

individualized for each unique student while emphasizing their unique skills.

I believe inclusion is a tool for students to learn best. An inclusive classroom

environment not only enhances the learning for an exceptional individual, but for all individuals.

With inclusion in the classroom, we can foster relationships among peers, tolerance and promote

self-esteem. Positive self-esteem is essential in measuring student success. With this ever-

changing world, technology plays an important role inside the classroom. The new generation

has opened the doors for students to have the resources they need for the best education possible.

Teachers can incorporate technology into the curriculum and use it as a tool to better assist

students with disabilities. It can be used effectively for communication and monitoring progress

as well.

I believe that the goals of special education students and general education students are

no different. All children have the right to be included in a general education classroom, rather

than be separated from their peers. Children do not want to feel segregated and left out.

Providing individuals with disabilities with the same learning opportunity as their peers is

integral in their development. I strive to improve each student’s ability at school, home and in

their community. I want all children to become as independent as possible.

I believe in maintaining a strong relationship with parents and families. Communication

is key to developing trust and understanding. With communication, I can develop an

understanding of what is or is not working for each student. This is effective for ensuring each

student can reach their full potential. I want to see all children grow in my classroom. I believe

patience and

My pre-philosophy statement is thought out and well rounded. However, it lacks the

development of ideas towards students in special education or students with disabilities. It is one-

sided and naive, solely based on the idea that all my students will learn the same way. I have

developed an understanding of how to accommodate to students with learning disabilities. I

mentioned communication as a quality in what makes an effective teacher. I still believe this to

be true. Not only is communication among parents and students vital, but with special education

students, communication among their special education teachers is even more important.

Keeping up with accommodations and educational progress with the student’s special education

teacher is essential. I want the student to be successful and finding out what works and doesn’t

work is my goal.

My professional future may or may not involve special education, but I feel that with the

experience and knowledge I have taken in from this course, I am more prepared to overcome any

challenges that may come my way. It is imperative to provide an inclusive environment to

special education students inside the classroom. Every child deserves the equal chance at an

opportunity towards education. It is my goal to create an atmosphere such as this where all

students can meet their full potential.
