Profile of District Dadu
Dadu District was formed in April 1931 from Larkana and Karachi
District. It is situated on Right Bank of River Indus. The District takes its name from
Headquarter town. The District was amalgamating seven talukas & two sub-Divisions as
under:-
1. DADU SUB DIVISION 2. SEHWAN
SUB-DIVISION.
Law and order situation in Dadu is better as compared to other Districts of Sindh. This is
due to the absence of the strong tribal systems as in other parts of Sindh like, Shikar Pur,
Kashmore, and Ghotki etc. Because in Dadu City people of different communities are living
together therefore this city is peaceful as compared to others interior regions.

Occupations
The majority of population of District Dadu is rural & they are involved in Agr: cultivation,
while towns are providing business opportunities to residents. The in habitants of Kheerthar
do farming while Mallah’s of Manchhar lake (Portion falling in taluka Johi) earns their
livelihood by fishing. Approximately 20% of the District population is serving in Federal &
Provincial Government.
The Climate of District is intensively Hot about 45 Degree Centigrade in Summer and below
5 Degree Centigrade in Winter. The Climate is immensely conducive for the Agriculture,
which is main source of income of the population. The other peculiar feature of climate of
District is the Gorakh Hill range which has minus temperature in winter and mercury meter
remains below than 20 Degree Centigrade even in June and July.
Extremely dry conditions prevail in Dadu with an annual rainfall of
139 mm (5.6 Inch) most of the rainfall (over 50 percent) comes in Monsoon months, July,
August and September. The rainiest months are July and August when 102 m.m. out of 139
m.m. of annual rainfall takes place. The western depressions bring relatively small quantity
of rainfall, 17 m.m. from December to March. High veritably of rainfall of rainfall (50-70
percent) is experienced and the rainfall comes in a few heavy showers.

The District is rich in natural resources such as valuable stones & reservoirs of Gas &
Petroleum have been explored in taluka Johi. The B.H.P. Company established its installation
to secure Gas & Petroleum. Another Foreign company viz: ENI has also setup their base
station along border of Taluka Johi & Sehwan for the purpose.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
The Agriculture land of Dadu District consists of three Zones: (i) Barrage Zone (ii) Sailabi
(River Spill in Kacho area) & (iii) Rainfall in Kachho area. The District is fed by Sukkur
Barrage. There are two main canals in District (i) Rice Canal (ii) Dadu Canal. The Irrigation
likewise other parts of province is Chief source of income of District Dadu. The all crops of
Kharif and Rabi are grown in District and such crops are wheat, Rice, Cotton, Sugarcane,
Maize, Barley, Pulses, Juwar, Bajra, Grams & Seasum. The total cultivated area of District is
1,93,779-0 acres.

carried during both the seasons Rabi and Kharif in the District for example in every month
training of Field Assistants are to be scheduled @ each Taluka of the District and displayed

Live Stock department is participated main role to provide the veterinary aid to the Live
Stock owners and Live Stock farmers in District and provide round the clock veterinary aid
to the sick and wounded animals through 40 veterinary institutions and door services
target, the District Government is not provide the vaccine the same may be supplied by the
FOREST.
Dadu is geographically & economically very important District. The total area
of Dadu District has now recently been reduced from 4,561,683.7 acres to its nearly 40%
due to creation of new District i.e Jamshoro. Now Dadu District has been confined to 04
in Dadu District is 17534 acres which is only 1% of the total geographical area. The area is
under control & management of Sindh Forest Deptt: except Kandi Baghban Forest ( 1790.4
POULTRY DEVELOPMENT.
The office Poultry Development Office Dadu was started by the Govt. in the year
1990 to provide New bread for Poultry increasing in Rural and Urban areas of the District Dadu.
The main purpose of poultry development activities in the rural areas was to
increase the production of rural poultry units which still contribute substantially to
the province over all production of eggs and poultry meat. In this case connection the
approach was:
Chicken /which could have under – scavenging condition and also accepted by the
people in place of the native chicken which were low-producing and low maturing.

countries like Saudi Arabia, U.A.E., Canada, U.S.A., U.K. etc. and they are investing their
earnings in their home country through different businesses. Their relatives are running all
these businesses. Agriculture and livestock and related projects of both sectors are the

In Dadu there many registered and unregistered business related associations are working.
Rice, Diary farming, Goat and Sheep farming, poultry farming, peeshban making and
handmade products are the major business sectors of the district. Rice mills, flour mills, ice
mills, ginning Industries are the main industry of Dadu.
Gorakh Plateau also serves as gateway for the villagers of Khuzdar District, Balochistan,
who come over to the village, Wahi Pandi, in Sindh's segment of Kirthar, about a third way
downhill from Gorakh Hill Station... for purchasing food and other Utilities.
The Gorakh Hills summit can only be reached with 4x4 vehicles, which are available from
Dadu and Johi towns. The hilltop is 93 km from Dadu. The last small town before the Gorakh
Hill is Wahi Pandi, settled in the lap of the Kirthar range. The road thereafter is towered
slowly at the milestone of 53 km when one enters the Yaroo Pass (Yaroo Sain Jo Luck).
Like Manchar Lake and Ganero its also an important point for tours and visitiors if
government take keen interst in for the development of Gorakh it can become a tourist
destination in Summer like Maree, Ziarat and other areas of Pakistan.
Through starting different buisness related activities by the government the local
inhabitants can generate their livlihood and it will help in decreasing unempolyment and
poverty in the very backward district of Dadu.
Handmde products.
District Dadu is very famous in all over the country due to its beautiful and cultural
handmade products. Because Dadu is a very backward region and due to the shortage of
water especially in Kachoo (rain fed area where water comes in rainy seasons only) and
mountainous areas of Dadu the major source of income of the people is Livestock and making
different products with their hands. The artisans who are working in the cluster having lot
of skills and they are very talented. They are also very hard workers and dedicated. The
major products due to which the cluster is famous are Sindhi Caps, Relies, Sindhi dresses,
different decoration pieces and traditional tuck work and peach work.
