Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Daily Routine

● Prayer
“May I ask everyone to please stand, we’ll (Students stand up)
start the day with a prayer.”

“Jenny, can you please go in front and lead Jenny: “Yes, ma’am”
the prayer?” (Jenny goes in front of the class)

1
“Our Father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be Thy Name. Thy
Kingdom come. Thy Will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give
us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we
forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into
temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.”

“Thank you, Jenny.”

“Good morning, class!” “Good morning, ma ’am Panican”

“Alright, you may now seat.” (Students sits in their chair)

● Checking of Attendance

“Let’s check the attendance first. Say (Students raise their hand and say present as the teacher calls in
present when I call your name” their name)

● Room Cleanliness

“Okay, kindly pick up all the trashes and (Students pick up the pieces of paper under their chair.)
pieces of paper near you.”

“Okay, very good.”

B. Recall/Review

“Alright. Now, can somebody recall what

is our topic on our previous discussion?” (John raises his hand)

“Yes, John?” John: “Our topic is all about Oral Language Used for Specific
Purposes”
“That’s right. And what have you learned
from our last topic?” (Student’s raises their hand)

“Yes, Karen?
“Oral language is one of the most important abilities students may
learn, both socially and academically. Learners employ this skill to
process and convey information, instructions, explanations, narrate
events, and even communicate with peers throughout the day.
There are various ways of communicating what we need or feel
than speaking. Our emotions or thoughts may be communicated
through our facial expressions and body movements. To
communicate and receive the message with clarity, precision, and
conciseness, both the speaker and the listener must possess
attributes or characteristics.”
“Absolutely! Thank you, Karen.”

“Okay. I’m glad you all have

retained what we discussed last
Monday.”

2
C. Motivation

“Before we start our discussion for

the day, I want you to take a look in these
three pictures presented here. I want you to
examine the details and determine the
concepts that each image demonstrates or
conveys. Are we clear?” “Yes, ma’am.”

(First Picture)

“Alright. What can you observe in the first

picture?

“Yes, Jimuel? Jimuel: “The picture shows bayanihan, ma’am. Wherein people
transfer houses from one location to another in order to collect
funds for natural catastrophe victims. When it comes to
festival, people build homes out of local materials and race them to
a faraway place.”

“Very good. Now what can you infer from Angelica: “Bayanihan is a part of the Filipino culture, ma’am”
what they are doing. This is what? Yes,
Angelica?

“Excellent! This is a culture of ours.”

“Now let’s go to the second picture.”

(Second Picture)

“Okay, what can you say about the (Ivan raises his hand)
picture?”

3
“Yes, Iva n? Please stand up.” Ivan: “The picture shows the Philippine’s national here, Dr. Jose
Rizal, being shot by a Spaniard.”

“That is right! And this is part of our?”

“Yes, May?” May: “This is part of our history, ma’am.”

“Correct! Now, let’s go to the last picture.”

(Third Picture)

“Okay, what does the picture tries to Kevin: “The pictures show what’s like our place before, ma’am. I
show? Yes, Kevin?” could see the kind of house that we Filipinos used to live in, the
bahay kubo. And as well as the animals being the main sources of
living”
“Very well said! Specifically, that is how
our environment was like.”

D. Teaching-Learning Sequence

“Now, does anyone knows what our topic Steve: “Ma’am, I think our topic for today would be something that
would be about, based on what we did includes the three which is the culture, history, and environment.”
earlier?”

“You guess it right!”

“Reading, listening, and watching teach

you a lot of things. At the very least, the
knowledge you received may have an
impact on your view of life as well as your
daily actions. This knowledge, which
might constitute a text's theme or topic,
could be about culture, history, the
environment, or other variables that have
an impact on people's lives. Furthermore,
what you've learned through what you've
read, heard, and seen can help you grasp
cultural values, historical viewpoints,
environmental effects, and other important
settings that you encounter on a daily
basis. You will discover that what is in the
content is real after assessing the
information. Today, we will see how a

4
selection may be influenced by culture,
history, environment and other factors.
Before that, let’s formally define what is
culture, history, and environment so that
you will have a clearer view on our
lesson.”

(The teacher presents the three-vocabulary

word from the presentation)

“Okay, lets define first what is Culture.

Can someone define what is Culture from
your own words?” (Mark raises his hand)

“Yes? Please stand up, Mark” Mark: “Culture is the way of life of an entire society, ma’am.”

“Correct! Culture is a set of characteristics

shared by a social group, which can be as
small as a family or a tribe or as vast as a
racial or ethnic group, a nation, or, in the
era of globalization, individuals from all
over the world. It includes religion,
language, manners, language, dress,
rituals, behavioral norms including law
and morality, and belief systems. Culture,
on the other hand, is neither set nor static;
rather, it is a dynamic process in which
people adapt to changing circumstances
and challenges.”

“How about the History? Can someone Jacob: “History is the study of past events, ma’am.”
give a brief meaning of history? Yes,
Jacob?”

“Exactly! History also refers to the

academic field that use a narrative to
describe, evaluate, question, and analyze a
series of past events, as well as the patterns
of cause and effect that are associated with
them. History gives us a feeling of self-
identity. We can better grasp who we are if
we understand where we came from. Our
lives and existence have a sense of context
thanks to history. It enables us to
comprehend the current situation and how
we could go in the future.”

“Now let’s define the last. Someone define (Jade raises her hand)
what is environment.”

“Please stand up, Jade.” Jade: “It is the surroundings or conditions in which a human,
animal, or plant lives or operates.”

“Perfect! The event and culture in which a

person lived are referred to as the
individual's environment. The environment

5
encompasses everything that surrounds us.
Also, the environment has an impact on a
person's views and behavior.”

“As I have said earlier, today, we will see

how a selection may be influenced by
culture, history, environment and other
factors. Hence, you will read a short story
by Amador Daguio entitled ‘Wedding
Dance’. Are you all ready?” (Students in unison) “Yes, ma’am!”

“Great! Before that, let’s get to know first

the author.”

(The teacher will project a short

background about the author.)

“Anna, will you please read the presented (Anna stands up and read the texts in the presentation)
information in the presentation?” Anna: “Amador Daguio was born in the Ilocos province of the
Philippines in 1912. He began writing poetry in high school and
published his first poem before he graduated. Throughout his
career, he taught at a number of schools in the Philippines and also
worked as a lawyer, editor, reporter, and public relations officer for
the Filipino government. And he was a Republic Cultural Heritage
awardee for his works.”

“Thank you for reading, Anna.”

“In his writing, Daguio seeks to establish a

pure Filipino voice, distinct from its
colonizers. Even in English, Daguio’s
writing is Filipino in essence. In “The
Wedding Dance”, he draws upon the
culture of his ancestors to explore Filipino
traditions along with the universal themes
of love, suffering, and societal
expectations.”

“Okay, let us now read the short story. Fall

in line here in front and get your copy of (Students fall in line and get their copy)
the short story”

“Alright. Now, read it silently. I will give (Students read the short story silently)
you 10 minutes to read the short story.
Reading starts now.”

---------------(After reading) ----------------

“Okay, 10 minutes have passed. Are you “Yes, ma’am”

all done reading the short story?”

“Great! Now, I have a question. In the (Bryan raises his hand)

story, there are several statements that
shows culture. Does anyone can point out

6
from the story that shows the influence of
a culture? Anyone?”

“Yes, Bryan?” Bryan: “One of the cultures that was shown in the story is when
Lumnay said that she sacrificed their chickens to their God,
Kabunyan, in order for them to be blessed and have a child.”

“Yes, that’s definitely one of the cultures

done in the past and even now, some still
do that. Mostly, tribes believe that they (Bella raises here hand)
must offer first something to their god,
mostly animals, in order for their wish to
be granted. Okay, another one?”

“Okay, Bella, please stand up.” Bella: “One of the cultures shown in the story as well is dancing in
the wedding. In the story, it is said that the people together with the
bride and groom shall dance with gangsa music.”

“Correct. Dances are usually linked to

rituals for a good harvest, health, prayers
for peace, and safety in war. And what
have Bella said, Gangsa instruments is a
term for a type of gong which is used by
Igorot tribe. Now, we could infer that
Lumnay and Awiyao is part of the Igorot
tribe.”

“Okay, another culture that was shown in

the story is that in the igorot tribe, to be a
man, he shall have a child. As we can see,
the culture affected the characters in the
story. That is why, Awiyao marries
another woman.”

“What else?” Gina: “One of the cultures shown in the story as well is when
Awiyao offeres a token, his spear, to Lumnay’s father as a desire to
marry her.”

“Yes, very good! And I believe, not just

Igorot trbe used to do that, there are
several tribe or ethnic group that does
that.”

“Now, let’s move on to the Environment.

The author mentioned some situations
where it reveals the environment in the
story. Can somebody tell what those are?” (Bea raises her hand)

“Okay, Bella?” Bella: “In the first part of the story, Lumnay and Awiyao was in the
house, and it was mentioned the house was also made in rattan.
And there were caverns through other houses.”

“Exactly! What about the surrounding? Mika: “The author mentioned in the part where Lumnay is walking
How did the author describe it? Yes, away from the wedding, it was said that there were mountains and
Mika?” rivers.”

7
“Very good! Awiyao and Lumnay most
likely to belong to the Igorot people who
inhabit the mountain areas of Luzon, the
largest island in the Philippines. And with
that being said, the way of life of the
characters in the story was affected
because of their environment. It was
described there that Lumnay and Awiyao’s
way of living is through planting and
harvesting crops.”

“And now, let us move on to the last,

which is the History. As we have talked
about earlier, the environment includes
mountain which we linked to the areas of
Luzon, the largest Island in the
Philippines. In the past, these islands were
settled by various migrants from Southeast
Asia for centuries. These peoples built up
a number of different cultures and clan-
based social structures on the many islands
of the archipelago. In the 1500s, Spain
colonized the islands, spreading
Christianity and the Spanish language.
Following Spain’s loss in the Spanish
American war of 1898, the Philippines
became a territory of the United States.
During World War II, the islands were
occupied by the Japanese until gaining
their independence in 1945. The Igorot
people maintained many of their
traditional cultural practices through the
late 19th century. With that being said, the
Igorot tribe in short story, though a fiction
story it also reflects and shows that the
tribe managed to maintain their cultural
practices. Even today, dance and gangsa
music form were important part of their
celebrations.”

“Alright, now, we’ll talk about why it is

important to know the Filipino Culture,
History, and Environment. Does anyone
know the importance of knowing these? Jimmuel: “For me, it is important to know those three because it
Yes, Jimmuel? Please stand up.” helps us understand ourselves.”

“That’s right! Knowing those three will

give you a knowledge why some things are
in that way now. And not just for
ourselves, but we also get to understand
the other people and the world better. And
it could help us overcome and prevent
racial and ethnic divisions, we get
exposure to new experiences, we become
more prepared to cope with the ever-
changing world and it helps us develop a

8
new level of appreciation for just about
everything.”

“Okay, class did you understand our topic “Yes, ma’am!”

well?”

“Great! Glad to know that.”
