The writing samples were chosen based off of excellency and passion put into the work. I wanted
the works to both show off my skills, as well as my interests in life. The first piece of writing I
chose was my critique of a writing sample, specifically an article written for Complex about
Nike’s lawsuit of John Geiger. While it wasn’t my highest graded assignment, it showed off
many of my interests, being sneakers, fashion and law, as well as my ability to analyze work. My
grade suffered originally due to making the piece one large paragraph but splitting it up made it
more visually appealing and a stronger overall paper.
Next I chose the job description assignment, mainly due to it being the first assignment of
the semester which shows where I began as a writer this year. There weren’t many errors
originally, mainly just first person phrases I removed and adding too many extra words. This was
not necessarily a piece of writing I am passionate about, but technically it was one of my better
pieces for the semester.
I also included my writing from the social media posts assignments for two reasons. First,
I got to write for a company that I dream of working for, and I got to practice skills for the field I
hope to work in. I did one example in which I followed Aime Leon Dore’s formula for simplistic
captions, and then put my own creative spin on one of their photos. I believe this assignment
helped show my passion for the streetwear industry while also displaying my creativity. There
weren’t many problems with the original assignment, but I chose to add a hyperlink to the word
“Subscribe” which sends the reader to the brands website where they can subscribe to the
mailing list.
The final piece I chose to add was the creative brief I wrote for Aime Leon Dore’s
Fall/Winter collection. Out of everything I wrote this semester, this is by far the piece I am most
proud of. I had never written a brief before, so not only did I gain a new skill, I was also able to
imagine what it could be like to work for this industry. This piece was a large display of my
passion and showed a glimpse of my skills as a marketer, being my ability to identify target
audiences. There were a couple of technical errors that I fixed, such as number errors and making
things possessive, but overall I believe this was my most outstanding piece for the semester.
I learned a great deal of skills this semester that I hope to continue to improve as I finish
college and enter the workforce. For many years my writing would lean to much on the creative
side which would leave space for many technical errors and extra words. This semester help me
find a middle ground, being able to use the normal descriptive writing I would do while still
keeping it concise and focused. I also hope to be able to apply the skills I learned in this class to
a summer internship, hopefully related to a brands marketing department and social media.
