1. Show that x = 1 , y = -1 and x = -1 , y = -2 are solutions of the equation x - 2y = 3


2. Show that x = 3, y = -4 and x = 0 and y = 2 are solutions of the equation 2x + y = 2
3. Express y in terms f x in the equation 2x + 3y = 17. Check whether x = 4, y = 3 is a
solution of the equation 2x + 3y = 17. Also, find the point where the line represented
by 2x + 3y = 17 cuts the y-axis.
4. If 3x + 7y = 14, express y in terms of x. Check whether ( 3, -2) is a point on the given
line.
5. Express x in terms of y for the equation 4x - y + 7 = 0. Find the pont where the line
4x - y + 7 = 0 cuts x-axis.
6. Show that x = 3, y = 1 is a solution of system of linear equations x - 2y = 1 and
x+y=4
7. Draw the graph of the system of equations x + y = 5 and 2x - y + 2 = 0. Shade the
region bounded by these lines and x-axis.

examinaion?
38. If two liquids are mixed in ratio 3 : 2, a mixture is obtained weighing 1.04 g per cc, while if they are
mixed in the ratio 5 : 3, the resulting mixtures weighs 1.05 g per cc. Find the weight of the cc of each
of the original mixture.
39. If we add 5 to the denominator and subtract 5 from the numerator of a fraction, it reduces to 1/7. If
we subtract 3 from the numerator and add 3 to its denominator, it reduces to 1/3. Find the fraction.
40. The numerator of a fraction is 4 less than its denominator. If the numerator is decreased by 2 and
the denominator is increased by 1, then denominator is eight times the numerator. Find the
fraction.
41. If the numerator of a fraction is multiplied by 2 and the denominator is reduced by 5, the fraction
becomes 6/5. And if the denominator is doubled and the numerator is increased by 8, the fraction
becomes 2/5. Find the fraction.
42. If the denominator of a fraction is added to its numerator and the numerator subtracted from the
denominator, the fraction becomes 11/3. Determine the fraction if its denominator is 3 more than
the numerator.
43. Out of 940 km journey, a part of the journey was covered by a motor car at a speed of 72 km per
hour. the remaining part of the journey was covered by train at a speed of 84 km per hour. If the
total distance was covered in 12 hours, find the disance travelled by the train and the time taken by
it to cover that distance.
44. A man travels 600 km partly by train and partly by car. If he covers 400 km by train and the rest by
car, it takes him 6 hours and 30 minutes. But if he travels 200 km by train and the rest by car,
he takes half an hour longer. Find the speed of the train and that of the car.

5 sq m. Find the perimeter of the room.
57. A and B each has some money . If A gives Rs 50 to B, then B will have twice the money left with
A. But if B gives Rs 20 to A, then A will have thrice as much as is left with B. How much money

65. A 90% acid solution is mixed with a 97% acid solution to obtain 21 litres of a 96% solution. Find
the quantity of each of the solutions to get the resultant mixture.
66. Taxi charges in a city comprise of a fixed charges togetherr with the charges for distance covered.
For a journey of 10 km the charges paid are Rs 75 and for a journey of 15 km the charges paid are
Rs 110. What will a person have to pay for travelling a distance of 25 km?
67. Points A and B are 90 km apart from each other on a highway. A car starts from A and another
from B at the same time. If they move in the same direction, they meet in 8 hours and if they move
in opposite directions, they meet in 1 hour and 20 min. find the speeds of the cars.
68. A cyclist after riding a certain distance stopped for half an hour to repair his machine after which
he completes the whole journey of 30 km at half speed in 5 hours. If the breakdown has oc
curred 10 km at further off, he would have done the whole journey in 4 hours. find
where the breakdown occurred and his original speed.
69. After covering a distance of 30 km with a uniform speed there is some defect in a train engine and
therefore, its speed is reduced to 4/5 of its original speed. consequently the train reaches its
destination late by 45 minutes. Had it happened after covering 18 kim more, the train the
train would have reached 9 minutes earlier. Find the speed of the train and the length of the
journey.
