SAMPLE LESSON PLAN RUBRIC

Objectives: Statements of lesson purposes and student learning i.e. action words like
name, list, design, identify, define, develop, practice, assess, and write.
Goals that identify specific learning styles and/or Gardner’s 8
intelligences would be included in this part of the lesson plan.

Materials/Equipment:
List all handouts, transparencies, videotapes, books, software, internet
incorporation, evaluation instruments, technical equipment included in the
lesson.

Instruction: Explain all teacher and student activity involved in the teaching and learning of
the lesson.
A. Teacher Procedures: Outline all the teacher will do to present and teach
the lesson.
B. Student Activities: Outline all the students will do to participate in the
lesson

Closure: Plan an ending for the lesson. “That’s all folks!” is not adequate. A closure
helps students remember what they learned. Remember the old adage, “Tell
them, tell them what you told them, and tell them again!!”

Evaluation: Grading and assessing student learning is an essential part of the lesson. This
includes points assessed and grading instruments. Example: To evaluate this
lesson, write 5 exam questions the students could be asked after participating
in your lesson. Be aware that there are many other ways to evaluate.

Evaluation of your lesson will include the written component and the class presentation.
 The written component consists of the research summary and
bibliography and the lesson plan.
 The presentation will be evaluated on organization, lesson content and
class participation.
 If you follow the Evaluation Form components, you should be able to
achieve the full point value of the Teaching Presentation.

achievement). Discuss success of instruction as it relates to assessment of student progress. Include three student
samples (high, average, low) and an analysis of their performance based on assessment results.

Lesson Extension/Follow-up
