Materials: power point presentation, LCD Projector and Screen, sheets of Manila
paper, colored marker or crayons, charts, pictures, word card, tag board

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
1. A Text A Day
a. Reading of the text
Bru-u-u-u-m!
Little Liza ran to her Mother. She closed her eyes. She covered her
ears with her hands.
“Oh, Mother, I am afraid,” Liza said.
“Do not be afraid. The thunder will not hurt you,” Mother said.
Then, the rain came. It rained very hard. It rained the whole day.
Liza could not go out to play. She could not see anything outside the house.
It was dark outside.

b. Comprehension Questions:
1. What was Liza afraid of?
A. the rain B. the dark C. the thunder
2. Which group of words tell that Liza was afraid?
A. ran to her bedroom C. closed her eyes and covered her ears

a. Show the picture of the farm animals from the story “The
Enormous Carrot”.
b. Let the pupils talk about the animals in the pictures.
c. Say: Who are the animals in our story the Enormous Carrots? I
have here a short paragraph about the farm animals. Let us
read this together.

(This should be written on the board or on a Manila paper)

“Tiktilaok, Tiktilaok!“
The rooster wakes everyone up. All the farm animals get up.
Mother hen starts to look for food. The baby chicks go with
mother hen. They scratch the ground for grains and crumbs.
All the other animals keep themselves busy looking for
something to eat. At night time, they all sleep early so as to be
ready for the next day.

d. Ask: What animal crows to wake everyone up? What does mother hen do? Who goes
with mother hen? Why do the hen and chicks scratch the ground? Why do the animals
sleep early?

e. Let the pupils read some sentences taken from the paragraph.
The rooster crows.
Mother hen starts to look for food.
The chicks go with mother hen.
They scratch the ground.
The animals keep themselves busy.
They all sleep early.

f. Let the pupils identify the action word in each sentence. Let them also identify the
subject in each sentence.

 How many hens are talked about?
 What do you notice with the action word? In what letter does it end?

 When do we add –s or –es in action words?
 At what tense of the verb do we use the S-form or base form of verbs?

3. ABSTRACTION

SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE OF VERBS


 Shows actions done in the present time.
 Add –s or –es at the end of the verb when used with a singular or only
one subject.
 Use the base form of the verb with plural or many subjects.

INDIVIDUAL ACTIVITY
Using their Show-Me boards, students write the correct form of the verb to
be used in each sentence.
a. The boys (play, plays) basketball every afternoon.
b. Children (go, goes) to school daily.
c. Mother (cook, cooks) our meals always.
d. My friends (love, loves) to play tag.
e. A cat (drink, drinks) milk.
f. Tall buildings (cover, covers) the park.
g. She (sing, sings) very well.
h. My sister (wash, washes) the dishes every after meals.
i. Tony (clean, cleans) our backyard.
j. Kylie (read, reads) books at night.

GROUP ACTIVITY
a. Give each group cut-out pieces of paper. They have to complete the puzzle
to form a picture and paste it on a 1/8 sheet of Manila paper.
b. Each group writes a sentence about it. The sentence should use the
simple present tense of the verb.

c. A representative from each group presents their work in front of the


class.

IV. ASSESSMENT
Write a sentence about each picture below using the simple present tense of verbs.
