PT On Hypothesis Testing 2

This document is an activity sheet for a student named Reanne Ashley Galo studying hypothesis testing. It provides a road accident data set and asks the student to complete the nine steps of hypothesis testing. The null hypothesis is that there is no significant relationship between road width and accidents, while the alternative hypothesis is that there is a significant relationship. The test statistic is Pearson's correlation coefficient r, which is 0.95, indicating a very strong relationship. The p-value is 0.03, which is less than the significance level of 0.05. Therefore, the null hypothesis is rejected, meaning there is a significant relationship between wider roads and more accidents in cities.

Subject: ACC116: PT in Hypothesis Testing

Prepared by: Fe R. Janiola, Ph.D.
ACTIVITY SHEET No. ____
Name: Reanne Ashley Galo Date: 11/24/21
Course & year: BSA-2 Score: __________
Skills/Exercise/Drill Summative Performance Task
Topic: Tests of Hypothesis
Learning Outcome: To complete the nine steps in hypothesis testing.
A. Accidents in big cities are often attributed to road designs. One can easily deduce that wider
roads lead to vehicular accidents because cars tend to overspeed on these kinds of roads.
Suppose the number of accidents are recorded in five different places where roads are wider
than usual and the following data is available for analysis. p-value =0.03
Road width (in feet) 150 104 120 66 84
No. of road accidents 40 84 55 92 90
Compute the R-value and complete the 9 steps in hypothesis testing using the problem
above!
1.Problem Statement:
➢ Do accidents in big cities are often attributed to road designs?

2.Hypotheses
Ho: There is no significant relationship between the accidents in big cities and road designs?
Ha: There is a significant relationship between the accidents in big cities and road designs?
3.Choice of Test Statistics
➢ α: Pearson product moment of correlation, α= 0.05

4.Computation
r-value= 0.95 Very strong relationship
p-value= 0.03
5.Decision Rule, Level of significance, Findings
➢ Decision Rule: Reject Ho if p-value < (α) level of significance
➢ Finding: p-value (0.03) < α (0.05)
6.Decision
➢ Reject the null hypothesis
7.Interpretation
➢ There is a significant relationship between the accidents in big cities and road
designs.
8.Conclusion

➢ A road design could guarantee an accident in big cities.

9. Implication
➢ There is a complexity encountered to understand the relationship between road
geometric design elements and road accidents rate because of the interrelations
among the geometric design elements themselves and also other accident-related
factors, however it is obvious that some geometric design elements such as short
sight distance, wider roads and small curve radius can significantly increase the road
accidents rate and severity. Moreover, a combination of certain geometric design
elements can result in serious accidents occurrence
