1. Introduction
1.1. Overview of the study
Bollards are a type of Vehicle Security Barrier (VSB) that is necessary for some
areas to reduce the danger of terrorists utilising automobiles. The latter is kept to a
minimum by VSBs imposing a stand-off in order to safeguard persons and property.
Bollard-style VSBs address a number of frequent operational challenges that arise at
congested traffic interchanges. When deciding where to install bollards in the public
domain, designers should take a comprehensive approach to ensure that the proper
degree of physical protection is supplied while minimising any detrimental impact on
pedestrian traffic. To satisfy security standards, bollards must be positioned to
maximise blast stand-off distance and separated by a maximum air gap (Maduliat, et
al., 2015). Bollards are often extremely sophisticated and stylish these days,
providing to protect people and property while also contributing to the beauty of the
structure. This study focuses on companies making bollards, competitive analysis of
the company, and forecasting of bollards demand in the UK. The evaluation of
market size, future trends, and comprehensive benefits to the consumer is also done
in an effective manner. This entire study is intended to provide scope for bollard
companies to rise in the UK and other global markets.

1.2. Background of the study

Ramsafe is a newcomer to the bollard manufacturing sector, and its primary purpose
is to enter the market and sell its products in order to profit. Ramsafe bollards
provide the best defence against vehicle thefts, ram raids, and unwanted
encampments on the property of the business. The company is a start-up and want
to develop its presence in the UK and other markets. The company has a strong
future prospect and aims at providing substantial protection to defence, security,
commercial and other industries in an effective manner (Ramsafe, 2021). With the
help of this study, the company’s growth in UK and EU market can be analysed
efficiently as the market size, market value, future trends of bollards in such markets
have been determined in detail. This business idea is considered to be very effective
as it has the ability to provide safety and protection against accidents and traffics. As
the number of traffic accidents and terrorist assaults increases, so does the demand
for bollards, and the bollard industry is expanding rapidly. The introduction of novel

5
and inventive designs, as well as the dependence on bollards in urban growth, are
two of the important drivers driving the market's growth. Furthermore, the
government's security worries have grown more intense, hastening the construction
of bollards.

1.3. Problem statement

Bollards are huge in demand due to expansion and modification of railway and
roadways infrastructure along with rising demand for proper barrier systems to
mitigate accidents or other issues. Due to the huge rise in demand, Ramsafe a new
start-up bollard company is facing issues in developing its presence in the UK and
other markets. It is very essential for the firm to find out new ways or methods to gain
customer trust and develop a leading position in such a competitive market. This
study effectively helps in forecasting the demand for bollards in different markets and
revenue generated every year in an effective manner.

1.4. Importance of the study

This study might help the readers to know about bollards and their importance in
different industries. It would help in gaining effective information related to the study
topic. The analysis of competition and demand forecasting of bollards has been done
efficiently. The different strategies have been evaluated to make understand the
users the different ways to penetrate the market and attract more and more
customers (Maduliat, et al., 2015). A detailed evaluation of the need for bollards in
various markets will help understand their importance. As a result, the formulation of

1.8. Summary
This section of research is solid as this accumulate potential idea for bollards in the
UK market. In recent years, the due to rising in urbanisation there is a huge increase
in traffic and accidents and this has led to rising in temporary and permanent road
safety barriers, street lights, gantries and many more. The aim of this research is
fulfilled by conductive extensive research for analysing competitors, forecasting of
demand of bollards in the UK and another market. This section's objective is to show
the project's goal as well as the intermediate instructions. It also offered a succinct
backdrop and the concept of the study topics.

7
2. Literature Review
2.1. Market size and value of Bollards industry
According to Czarnecki (2018), the market for Automated Barriers and Bollards is
highly fragmented, with many small local enterprises competing for a small
regional share. Some of the industry's best firms are continuing to increase their
potential market by increasing their present product line, broadening their
customer base, and introducing new technological breakthroughs. Increased use
of smart city projects and ANPR penetration, as well as better roadway building
and the number of toll booths in both developed and developing nations, are
some of the important drivers driving the market growth. Several developing
nations in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and Africa are rapidly expanding and
modernising (Reports and Data, 2021). The number of toll booths built each year
has increased significantly, paralleling the growth of transportation infrastructure.
Vehicle demand has continuously increased in recent years, and as a result, toll
booth capacity has expanded rapidly. To accommodate this demand, either new
toll lanes will be developed or the capacity of existing lanes will be raised. The
installation of new surge barriers will increase in lockstep with the building of new
toll lanes. China, India, Uganda, and the UK are among the growing countries
spending heavily on road building. In the 2016-17 budget, Uganda's government
set allocated more than US$ 1.07 billion towards the improvement of road
infrastructure throughout the country (Reports and Data, 2021).

It can be seen that the market for Automated Barriers and Bollards is predicted to
increase at a CAGR of 2.98 per cent from USD 1.63 billion in 2020 to USD 2.06
billion in 2028 (Reports and Data, 2021).

8
Figure 1 Growth of bollard industry

(Source: Reports and Data, 2021)

From the above figure, it can be determined that APAC countries are expected to
have huge growth in the market, with a CAGR of 5%. There will be a huge growth of
such industry in future due to increase in urbanisation and construction. North
America is expected to hold approach 41% market share by the year 2026.
Therefore, Europe has a leading market segment for such an industry with a market
share of approx. USD 500 million in forecast year, because of rising in construction
and urbanisation. While in the UK the size of the bollard market UK is 45%. The
major manufacture companies of the bollard in the UK are Marshalls, FAAC, Cogan,
Dumor, Glasdon, Saferoads and many others (The insights partner, 2021).

Furthermore, the government's understanding of safety has grown, permitting the

construction of bollards. The Bollards market was worth 1840 million dollars in 2018
and is expected to be worth 3780 million dollars by 2025, growing at a CAGR of 9.4
per cent (The insights partner, 2021). The global market for bollards is now seeing
amazing growth as a result of the rapid expansion of security goods combined with
increased emphasis on bollards. The need for bollards is growing as a result of the
increased frequency of traffic accidents and terrorist attacks, and the bollard market
is rapidly developing. The introduction of novel and inventive designs, as well as the
reliance on bollards in urban development, are two important drivers driving market
expansion. Furthermore, the government's safety concerns have grown, leading to
the creation of bollards.

9
2.2. The pricing strategy adopted by competitors and how much revenue is
being generated.
In the views of Li, et al., (2019), a self-driving toll system would be incomplete
without an automated barrier. Tolling booths with automated barriers are linked to
automatic tolling systems. Automatic tolling systems are used in paid parking lots.
Demand for robotic barriers and bollards is predicted to rise throughout the forecast
period due to the increasing deployment of automatic tolling systems. Many
developed countries, most notably the United States, Japan, and a few European
countries, use automatic tolling systems. Nonetheless, they are gaining favour in
developing nations.

The worldwide automated barriers and bollards market is being driven by road
growth and increased expenditures on transportation and highway infrastructure
construction. At toll booths and other security zones along the roadway, automated
barriers and bollards are deployed (Markets and Research, 2020). Many automated
barrier and bollard system manufacturers, particularly low-quality manufacturing
enterprises, use a low-price approach to maximise product sales, which reduces
profit margins for industry suppliers. Because lesser-quality barriers and bollards are
widely available, major automated barriers and bollard companies have been driven
to decrease prices in order to remain competitive, decreasing profit margins. As
argued by Cusumano, et al., (2015), the bollard sector looks to be fairly fragmented,
with several vendors active. The major players of bollards company are Avon barrier
corporation LTD, CAME, Nice SPA, Frontier Pitts LTD, Automatic system and many
more. The need for bollards is growing as a result of the increased frequency of
traffic accidents and terror attacks, and the bollard industry is thriving. The
introduction of new and inventive designs, as well as the reliance on bollards in
urban development, are two important reasons driving the market's growth.
Furthermore, the government's concern for public safety has grown, hastening the
spread of bollards. In 2019, the global revenue from bollards is anticipated to be
USD 2212.4 million. The market will increase at a 9.3 per cent CAGR from 2021 to
2026, reaching USD 4489.3 million (Businesswire, 2019).

10
2.3. Future demand and estimate price for bollards based on existing and
previous demand from various sectors.
The market value of automated barriers will have climbed by 1.8X by the end of
2021. According to the research, the market for automated barriers is predicted to
grow by 4.1 per cent year on year in 2021. The great flexibility and dependability of
automated barriers, as well as the growing demand for population control and
management systems in commercial infrastructure, may have spurred expansion
(PR Newswire, 2021). Automatic barriers are employed in the military and defence
sectors to prohibit unlawful acts such as significant traffic infractions, gang activity,
and assaults in high-traffic areas. The increased need for dependable security
systems in business and military settings will drive up sales of automated barriers in
the coming years. As research and development expenses for new autonomous
barrier systems with low operating and construction costs grow, new market
opportunities will arise.

Advanced features such as automatic number plate recognition cameras, push

buttons, radio-frequency identification (RFID) scanners, and gaming controllers and
sensors will increasingly be integrated, creating new commercial prospects. The
rising awareness of the need for security systems, as well as the formation of the
regional legislation, will drive up demand for automatic barriers in the future years.
Revenue from automated barriers is increasing as there are more traffic-related
incidents and a greater requirement for effective traffic modulation (PR Newswire,
2021). Consumer expenditure on home security, as well as the growth of industrial
and commercial zones, will drive up demand for automated barriers. Boom barriers,
according to Fact MR, will most likely be the most popular commodities on the
market. During the assessment period, their demand is estimated to expand at a
CAGR of 5.7 per cent (PR Newswire, 2021). As customers choose automated
automobile parking management and payment solutions, the market for RFID-based
automatic barriers and barricades is expected to grow. The rising cost of automatic
barriers and bollards with push buttons, UHF readers, RFID tags, loop sensors,
remote control, and ANPR cameras is predicted to propel the sector forward in the
automation age (Trust Pilot, 2021).

As per the views of Prasetyo, et al., (2021), bollards are used in different sectors and
has huge demand in these industries in an effective manner. A bollard is a modest

11
post that serves as a silent security officer or a pedestrian traffic controller. They are
designed to warn drivers of a restricted area or to prohibit cars from accessing there.
Bollards can also help to avoid accidents in and around specified places. Bollards
are utilised at a number of locations across airports. Because of passenger input and
outflow, these locations are usually crowded. To ensure airport safety, it is vital to
prohibit fast driving near certain areas. Airports benefit from the use of bollards to
maintain a high level of security. As a result, warehouse bollards are utilised as
traffic barriers to keep people away from moving cars or automated machinery
(Reliance Foundary, 2021). This states that there is a huge demand for bollards in
different industries as its help in making their process easy.

2.4. Critically assess the benefits of using bollards across various

industries.
As per the views of Chambers and Andrews (2019), a bollard is a secure pillar or
barrier that surrounds facilities such as parking lots and businesses, adding
protection to the property and visitors. The earliest bollards were used to aid moor
ships and boats roughly 200 years ago. To secure the vessel, two bollards, one on
the boat and one on the shore, would be linked by a line. Early bollards were made
from antique cannons, with the barrel end buried in the earth. Therefore, safe's
innovative range of flexible barriers and bollards provides a number of distinct
benefits over standard steel barriers and bollards, including lower costs, less
maintenance, and the prevention of critical damage. Some of the major benefits of
bollards across different industries include traffic management as - the organisation
can improve pedestrian safety and avoid accidents by strategically placing bollards
in high-traffic areas such as parking lots. Traffic control requires the use of bollards.
Bollards are required for test channelling, traffic diversions, blocked roadways, and
semi-closures (Flintoff, 2017). It also provides security for infrastructure and
buildings as bollards are a vital safety element that protects automobiles from both
accidental and intentional harm. Bollards would be an excellent addition to any
building or infrastructure that is prone to car collisions. Banks, colleges, government
offices, galleries, military bases, and corner buildings should all have bollards.
Bollards keep people safe or protect them in the event of an accident by preventing
vehicles from entering a protected area.

12
It has been argued by Cha, et al., (2016), that bollards help in preventing mounting
the curb. When parking is scarce in a high-traffic location, people may resort to
climbing the curb and parking on the edge of sidewalks. Vehicles trying to enter and
depart crowded parking lots may just climb the curb, causing damage to plants and
even structures. It also helps in maintaining aesthetics as it can be seen that
bollards may be used to blend in with the surrounding environment by matching the
site's themes and planting strategy, as well as offering colour accents that connect
everything together. People will value these visual elements as well as their function
in directing people to where they need to go. Concrete bollards may necessitate
some upkeep, but with the right sealant and frequent cleaning, they should survive
for years (Beg, et al., 2021).

Bollards are foldable barriers that can be used to limit or prevent vehicle access.
They come in a variety of shapes and sizes, with some towering over three metres in
height. Hydraulics are frequently utilised to power automatic bollard systems that do
not require any wiring. Automatic bollards have been found to be useful in keeping
unauthorised individuals from entering sites where security is a top issue, such as
schools, hospitals, and retail businesses. The market of bollards has been
segmented into different parts such as Hydraulic Powered, Electric Powered and
Pneumatic Powered. These bollards have different benefits and has ability to provide
additional level of protection such as restricting vehicle movement.

2.5. Recommendations on Ramsafe’s best potential market penetration

strategies.
According to Lavasani, et al., (2016), market penetration refers to the frequency with
which a service or product is used by clients in relation to the entire market for that
service or product. Market penetration may also be used to design strategies for
increasing a product or service's market share. Market penetration strategies assist
businesses in determining the way to enter a saturated market with an existing
product. Ramsafe company can enhance its market presence globally with the
adoption of effective market penetration strategies. Industry penetration techniques
enable a company to take existing products and services into a new industry with
high demand and begin capturing a bigger portion of the overall market, depriving
competitors of opportunity and income.

13
The different strategies that can be adopted by Ramsafe to penetrate its market
include making use of dynamic pricing. Many internet businesses engage in
pricing wars to get people to purchase goods and services at the lowest feasible
cost. Because online price fluctuates during the day, the market penetration strategy
becomes more competitive and difficult. Pricing policies enable pricing automation,
which means that regardless of the size or scale of a single product or service, the
software goes with it researches the market and sets prices to generate actionable
insights. Another strategy is to expand market penetration by establishing
distribution networks. If a company's main marketing channel is retail, it may
benefit from broadening its marketing channels to include email marketing, web
marketing, and telemarketing. Word-of-mouth is a significant technique for
spreading the word and acquiring new followers (Alkasim, et al., 2018). Many
companies provide membership and/or referral programmes. Advocates raise brand
awareness by actively recruiting friends and family, so assisting the firm in gaining a
greater market share and earning more money. If a corporation can associate
market share with a certain product or service, it makes sense to consider
growing on what the audience is currently interested in. Understanding what people
enjoy (and, more importantly, detest) about a product allows the firm to enhance it
through technological advancements in materials, newly designed accessories, and
so on (Alkasim, et al., 2018).

14
3. Research Methodology
3.1. Research Design
This section outlines the many tactics and approaches used in this investigation. It
makes it easier to collect the most relevant study data. This study applies a
qualitative research approach to acquire useful information on the project's
objectives. This study has been based on Saunders’s research onion as it provides
an outline for research methodologies and practices that determines the effective
design for the study. The research onion is an effective instrument for developing a
research plan. Its appeal stems from its capacity to adapt to nearly any form of
research methodology and to be applied in a range of settings (Sahay, 2016).

Figure 2 Saunders’s research onion

(Source: Sahay, 2016)

The above onion is a multi-tiered structure that effectively illustrates many stages of
the investigation. Beginning with the first layer of research philosophy, these stages
culminated in the development of data collection as well as an analytic approach.
This graphical depiction makes it easy to understand the necessary actions. The
philosophy chosen is pragmatism, the approach is inductive, the strategy chosen is a
case study, mix method is appropriate for this research. The approach or procedure
utilised is cross-sectional because it involves evaluating data from a population at a

15
certain point in time. Finally, the method of data collecting used in this study is
secondary. The information is analysed by making use of the thematic analysis
approach in an effective manner (Sahay, 2016).

3.2. Research Philosophy

When it comes to doing a good study., the research philosophy relates to the way
data was acquired, analysed, and evaluated with the purpose of conducting
research. There are numerous forms of research philosophy. Positivism is the most
widely practiced philosophical school. Researchers who utilise the scientific method
to develop hypotheses and conduct several experiments to obtain answers
commonly explore this attitude. As a result, the sample size is frequently addressed
in this sort of study. Personal experience or a point of view in Realism philosophy
affected the researcher. The appropriate philosophy is chosen depending on the
requirements, resources, time constraints, and research goals (Horrigan-Kelly, et al.,
2016).

Figure 3 Different Research Philosophy

It can be seen that there are different types of philosophies that can be utilised for
research. In this research pragmatism, philosophy has been utilised. Pragmatism is
a philosophical school of thought that contends that an idea or thesis is true if it
works effectively, that the meaning of a notion may be found in its practical effects,
and that completely impractical concepts should be rejected (Žukauskas, et al.,
2018).

16
3.3. Research Method
Research methods are the techniques, processes, or practices used to collect data
or evidence for analysis in order to disclose new information or get a better
understanding of a topic. A variety of research approaches may be employed to
acquire data. Research must be conducted in an effective manner, which includes
selecting the optimal approach. There are also a variety of approaches to pick from.
The research onion highlights the major methodologies. Methods are classified into
three types: mono, multi, and mixed. The approach utilised is determined by the
study's objectives (Chu, and Ke, 2017). Research that employs only one type of
approach, either primary or secondary, is referred to as "mono methodology."
Theories and real-life practices are combined in the mixed approach. A multi-method
study may employ two or more qualitative or quantitative research methods. The
Multi approach was used to gain a deeper understanding of this discussion.

3.4. Research Approach

In research methodologies, there are two well-known approaches: inductive and
deductive strategies. In contrast to the "inductive" technique, the "deductive" method
focuses on assessing theories rather than producing new ideas from facts. The
procedures and tactics used in the study to ensure its effectiveness and success are
referred to as the research methodology. Because the research is secondary in
nature, the data was gathered using an inductive technique. The inductive method
is a qualitative data analysis procedure that is most often directed by specific
assessment objectives. The assessment of the gathered data, like the data collection
component, may be divided into two sections. Both the "Qualitative Research
Approach" and the "Quantitative Research Approach" are used. The qualitative
technique generates a concise synthesis of secondary data sources. This is where
the connection between the original data and the defined goals is made (Bracken, et
al., 2013). Based on theory, this is a method for obtaining the most significant
secondary data. Qualitative research, on the other hand, is more concerned with the
investigation. It develops a conceptual framework and makes assumptions. This
study makes no use of surveys or interviews. The information provided here is solely
derived from secondary sources. As a result, the "Qualitative technique" is utilised to
conduct the analysis.

17
3.5. Research Strategy
To communicate knowledge, both primary and secondary research can be used.
Primary research methods include laboratory tests, surveys, and interviews. First, a
list of questions based on the study's instructions is generated. The questions are
then put to a group of people who are competent to answer them. Following that,
their responses are compiled and analysed using a variety of statistical techniques.
Secondary data analysis, on the other hand, collects information on a theoretical
basis. This section examines all of the available theories, extra materials, and case
studies. For the clearing, the first stage is to determine the research action step.
Another strategy used in this study is narrative analysis. Narrations are delivered by
trained and competent professionals. In this case, numerical metrics are utilised to
evaluate the acquired data. The secondary research approach is employed in this
focused analysis. As a result, data in this scenario is obtained from secondary
sources. During the operation, no actual experiments are carried out.

3.6. Data Collection method

In this consultancy project, the data is received from a secondary source. The
information in this research was gathered from scholarly articles and websites. The
data relating to bollard industry presence in UK or EU market has been analysed by
gathering data from official websites. FAME data was gathered, as well as previously
published scholarly articles and studies. Trust Pilot analysed existing consumers as
well as publicly available statistics to create competing competitor customer reviews.

3.7. Time horizon

For the completion of this project, the period of 15 weeks has been utilised in an
effective manner.

Figure 4: Gantt chart

18
3.8. Research Validity
The research was done correctly in every way. Because this study used a
"secondary data collecting and analysis technique," all of the information was
obtained from reliable sources. The research has no feeling of drudgery. The
majority of information is obtained from official sources to ensure that the data is as
efficient as possible. In order for the study to be more effective, its reliability and
validity must be maintained. To ensure the efficacy and reliability of the study,
genuine sources such as journal PDFs, media articles, and others were employed to
obtain information. Because it is founded on solid facts, the research will be relevant
for a long time.

3.9. Research Ethics

Research ethics are moral norms that assist researchers in carrying out and
publishing a study without being dishonest or with the aim of harming survey
respondents or individuals in society as a whole, whether deliberately or
unknowingly. Ethical issues are critical in research. Only if all ethical rules are
followed can the study be certified. Primary research is frequently perceived as more
ethical. Nonetheless, it is an important aspect of secondary research. This study also
satisfied all of the criteria for secondary research.

In this study, ethical principles and norms were observed. Secondary data was
gathered from many internet sources, including books, journals, websites, and online
publications. The data analysis in the research report was based on the snapshot
obtained on the site. The study article's content does not reveal any personal
information. The database only stores data-related information. During the data
gathering procedure, the "Data Protection Act of 1998" was followed. The data for
the study paper was obtained from a sound source. Secondary research information
is saved on a secure pen drive so that no one else may access it. According to the
corporation, the information may only be read by persons who have the necessary

Market Analysis of Bollards in Different countries

The global market for bollards is now seeing amazing growth as a result of the rapid
expansion of security goods combined with increased emphasis on bollards. As the
number of traffic accidents and terrorist assaults increases, so does the demand for
bollards, and the bollard industry is rapidly developing (Maximize Market Research,
2021). The infusion of new and inventive designs, as well as the reliance of urban
development on bollards, are among the primary drivers, driving market expansion.
Furthermore, the government's awareness of safety has grown, which has aided in
the creation of bollards.

Figure 5 Global Bollards Market

(Source: Maximize Market Research, 2021)

From the above figure, it can be seen that the worldwide market for marine bollards
was valued at $2446 billion in 2019 and is predicted to grow at a CAGR of 9.5% to
$4124 billion by 2027 (WBOC, 2021). Marine transportation is predicted to account
for 42% of the market and to increase at a stable rate. The outstanding thermal
stability and lifetime of the bollard in the face of a demanding environment are driving
growing demand for marine bollards. The market is projected to be pushed in the
near future by expansion in end-user industries and a broad list of notable players.
Each operating zone has substantial challenges such as corrosion, long-term fatigue
loads, tropical cyclones, and other difficulties that marine bollards can address. Two
main market affecting elements in the ship bollards subsection are technological
innovation and government help for domestic waterway infrastructure and size

21
expansion, as well as the development of more seaports (Maximize Market
Research, 2021).

Figure 6 Global bollards market

(Source: Data Intelo, 2021)

It can be seen that many types of automatic barriers and bollards on the market
include push buttons, remote operated, RFID tag readers, and loop detectors. In
2019, the RFID tag reader category held the most market share. Due to the
expanding technical qualities provided, the loop detectors sector trend is projected to
continue over the forecast period. The anticipated rise is mostly due to the increased
use of parking and security systems in the business sector. Loop detectors are also
utilised in toll booths and airports for check-in, billing, and booking (Data Intelo,
2021). The market is divided into three sections: residential, business, and outdoor
applications. In 2019, the outdoor sector of the automated barriers and bollards
market held the greatest proportion of the market. This is due to a rise in the number
of toll booths at state, district, and national borders. However, the commercial
segment trend is expected to continue during the projected period due to growing
digitization and activity by the commercial, private, and government sectors.

The global market for automated barriers and bollards is divided into Asia Pacific,
Europe, North America, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America. North
America is a huge market. The evolution of cutting-edge technology, like face
recognition toll booths and artificial intelligence-based state-of-the-art security
equipment, is linked to the country's market growth. However, because of rapid

22
technical, infrastructure, and digital advancements in India, China, South Korea, and
Japan, the Asia Pacific area is predicted to account for a significant portion of the
region's market by 2026 (WBOC, 2021).

Due to the existence of big competitors as well as small suppliers, the worldwide
automated barriers and bollards market is very fragmented. Tata Steel Ltd., Lindsay
Corporation, BBS Barriers, Avians, Transpo Industries, Trinity Industries Inc., Hill &
Smith, ATG Access Ltd., Deltabloc, Valmont Industries Inc., Worldwide Door
Automation, Frontier Polymers Ltd., and A-Safe UK Ltd. are among the major firms.
Industry participants are aiming to develop a distinctive high-tech display with low
power consumption in order to increase their market share and acquire momentum
in the global marketplace. Companies are investigating activities such as inventing
technology and recruiting industry-experienced employees for electronic display
research and development. Furthermore, corporations are pursuing initiatives such
as expansions, mergers, acquisitions, and the launch of new goods (Data Intelo,
2021).

Figure 7 Market Size of Barrier system

(Source: Grand view research, 2021)

From the above figure, it has been analysed that the market growth will most likely
be driven by increases in commercial real estate and improvements in global
transportation infrastructure over the projected period. Barrier systems are used to
correctly route people and vehicles along their designated lanes on trains, airports,
and roadways. The growing global need for better traffic management is projected to
boost market expansion. Because there are few alternatives in the marketplace,
23
acceptance of these systems is projected to increase across a wide range of end-
use sectors. Barrier systems are widely used to limit the number of car accidents and
crashes while also keeping people safe. They isolate vehicle traffic from
infrastructure, allowing for more efficient traffic flow and incident avoidance.
Furthermore, system providers are focusing on the development of curb barriers,
which are intended to offer ground-level protection for commercial infrastructure
buildings, walls, and equipment. As a result, the market is likely to expand during the
next several years (Verge, 2020).

Several barrier systems include automated control panels that successfully alleviate
traffic congestion by making the most use of current or future highways. This
technology is used to produce safe roadways with real-time route planning and lane
barrier protection in construction applications and controlled lanes. Various
contractors and transportation agencies employ barrier systems to make crowded
highways safer, more efficient, and advantageous. It contributes to a reduction in the
number of cross-over crashes and deaths (Grand view research, 2021). Repair costs
for barrier systems are expected to be prohibitive to industry expansion. Fences and
concrete blocks need significant reconstruction expenditures in the event of an
accident.

It has been determined that the crash barrier systems category led the market in
2019 due to increased deployment of these devices along highways to mitigate the
impact of high-speed autos and prevent fatalities and injuries. When compared to
other barrier systems, they require minimal maintenance (Verge, 2020). Contractors
also choose crash barrier systems due to their excellent durability. The bollards
market has been segmented based on end-user into commercial, data centres,
financial institutions, political, industrial, petrochemical, military and defence,
mobility, and others. Due to the growing usage of these bollards or barriers for
property and human protection in safety, military, and environmental objectives, the
military and defence industry led the market in 2019. Several suppliers are
concentrating their efforts on creating systems with flexible and modular setups. As a
result, whether or not specialist assistance is necessary, these systems may be
installed quickly (Grand view research, 2021). The emergence of bollards may be
related to the region's continual expansion of infrastructure companies. The growing
number of construction projects in countries such as India and China is predicted to

24
increase the market's potential. Increased government efforts and investments in
smart infrastructure projects to improve people's safety and security are also
projected to bolster the regional industry.

The company partnership with clients, stainless steel bollards, carbon steel bollards,
and various types of bollards cover, sleeves, and bollard skins are employed to meet
their specific security demands. In nearly every situation, it may be utilised to build a
barrier or a bollard. The company's high-strength ASTM crash authorised and non-
crash rated bollards provide a safety barrier system that may be customised to
complement the design of the company's surroundings. Security bollards by
Reliance Foundry are intended to defend commercial, agricultural, and other low,
moderate, or high-security zones. Bollards can be fixed or detachable, and there are
several design possibilities available, such as LED illumination, grooves or reveals,
bevels, flat, domed, and slant tops, polished, and more (Reliance Foundry, 2021).
The business can also design and manufacture bollard skins in a variety of alloys
and finishes, such as aluminum and bronze, in addition to the typical stainless
designs necessary for its purpose.

4.2. Discussion
This section effectively derives some insights from the gathered data along with the
knowledge collected from the literature. It can be analysed that there is a huge
demand for bollards in different industries as it helps in protection from accidents and
other dangers in an effective manner.

26
Ramsafe start-up companies can easily penetrate the UK and EU markets as there
is a huge demand for such barriers. There is a need for the company to come up
with new features or prices to survive in the competitive market (Ramsafe, 2021).
From the literature review, it can be analysed that the market for Automated Barriers
and Bollards is highly fragmented, with multiple tiny local businesses fighting for a
limited regional share. As a consequence of the fast expansion of security products
combined with a greater emphasis on bollards, the worldwide market for bollards is
presently seeing extraordinary growth. As the frequency of traffic accidents and
terrorist attacks grows, so does the need for bollards, and the bollard industry is fast
rising. The use of bollards in urban development, as well as the creation of unique
and imaginative designs, are two major factors driving the market growth.
Furthermore, the administration's concerns about safety have escalated,
necessitating the installation of bollards. Furthermore, it can be seen that
manufacturing and supplying bollards is a typical process as high cost is involved in
its manufacturing and transportation. Bollards have changed throughout time, and
they are now utilised in our modern society to handle security and safety issues,
control traffic, and avoid traffic accidents. The different types of bollards include
security bollards for infrastructure and buildings, restrictive access bollards, traffic
management bollards in an industrial setting, pedestrian safety, and many others
(Data Intelo, 2021).

In the literature view, it has been stated that the consumption of robotic barriers and
bollards is expected to climb throughout the predicted period due to the increased
deployment of automatic tolling systems. Automatic tolling systems are used in
several industrialised nations, including the United States, Japan, and a few
European countries. Nonetheless, they are gaining popularity in underdeveloped
countries. It can be seen that the rise is mostly due to the increased use of parking
and security system in different sectors. Due to the rise in technical, digital
advancement and infrastructure and many other practices in China, Japan, and other
countries, there is a rise in such infrastructure in an effective manner. The increased
global need for better traffic management is expected to drive market expansion.
Because there are few alternatives on the market, these systems are expected to
acquire traction in a wide range of end-use sectors. Barrier systems are also often
utilised to reduce the number of automobile accidents and wrecks while protecting

27
people. Ramsafe company effectively design manufactured goods as per its
customer-specific needs to ensure its customer satisfaction. The firm bollards are
only heavy-duty manual ones, that with just a tap of the individual foot will auto rise
and lock into place. The auto raises or closes with only 2 kg of weight to return to its
position using its patent-pending weightless action. Such a new feature of Ramsafe
bollards can help the firm to develop its effective position in the global market
(Ramsafe, 2021).

There is a huge demand for the bollards industry in future, as the market value for
such products is rising in a huge manner. Such barriers are highly demanded in
defence, military and security companies for the protection and management of their
systems in the desired manner. In the section of the literature review, it has been
determined that the demand for dependable security systems in commercial and
military contexts will drive up sales of automated barriers in the future years. New
economic possibilities will emerge as the cost of research and development for new
autonomous barrier applications with low operating and building costs grows.
Furthermore, as there are more traffic-related events and a larger requirement for
appropriate traffic modulation, revenue from automated barriers is growing. Demand
for automatic gates will rise due to the expansion of industrial and commercial zones,
as well as consumer spending on home security. A bollard is a small pole that acts
as a traffic controller or a quiet security guard. They are intended to notify drivers of
the presence of a restricted area or to prevent vehicles from entering it. Bollards can
also aid in the prevention of accidents in and around certain regions. Bollards may
be seen at a number of locations across airports (Businesswire, 2019).

From the case of Reliance Foundry Company, it has been analysed that there is a
huge demand for bollards in the global market. Bollards are made of several
materials, including ductile iron and plastic. Powder coating is used to iron, ordinary
steel, and aluminium products to improve their high-quality goods and services as
well as their aesthetic appeal. Bollards made of stainless steel have a smooth
surface and will not rust under hard environments. Reliance Foundry is committed to
environmental and sustainability needs in its products and day-to-day operations.
Further, it can be stated that Ramsafe company can be successful in developing a
presence in other countries.

the market's growth.

It has been concluded that the high flexibility and efficiency of robotic barriers, as
well as the increasing requirement for controlling the population and monitoring
systems in commercial infrastructure, may have fueled growth for bollard companies
of the UK and EU. In the defence department and military sectors, automatic barriers
are used to ban criminal behaviors such as major traffic offences, gang violence and
attacks in high-density areas. It has been developed that in the coming years, sales
of automated barricades will be expanded due to the rising demand for trustworthy
security systems in commercial and military contexts. New business possibilities will
emerge as research and development expenditure for future autonomous barrier
systems with reasonable operating and building costs increases. The greater
awareness of the requirement of security systems, as well as the development of
regional laws have been driven by increased demand for robotic barriers in the
coming years. As there are more traffic-related problems and a larger need for
effective transportation regulation, the revenue from automated barricades
is growing.

Bollard's organisation can increase passenger safety and reduce accidents by

appropriately putting bollards in high-traffic locations such as parking spaces which
is one of the key benefits of bollards across many sectors. It has been examined that
bollards are used to manage traffic and are necessary for test routing, traffic
redirection, blocked highways, and semi-closures. It also protects infrastructures and
businesses since bollards are a critical safety component that protects vehicles from
both accidents and purposeful damage. The bollard has provided security benefits of
a great addition to any property or architecture that is subject to automobile
accidents. The expansion of industrial and commercial zones, as well as consumer
spending on home protection, will increase demand for automatic gates. A bollard is
a tiny post that serves as both a traffic control device and a quiet security guard.
They are designed to either alert drivers to the presence of a restricted area or to
prohibit cars from accessing it. Bollards can also help to avoid fatalities in and
around certain areas. Bollards may be seen at a variety of locations across airports.

31
