Journal Summary

The journey I have endured during nursing school has been difficult. I was faced with many

obstacles and challenges. Being a single mother, having to undergo lumbar surgery, having to

bury my child’s father and watch my own father succumbing to his illnesses have weighed

heavily on me. On the other hand, I feel blessed to have accomplished my goal to become a

nurse. I have become a role model to my sisters and teenage son. My feelings towards my

upcoming graduation are overwhelming joy. I feel extremely proud of myself for having

accomplished this with honors.

Upon graduating, I want to master several skills. First, I’m going to become certified in advanced

life support. My goal is to become an intensive care unit nurse or emergency room nurse. It is on

these units where I would like to gain my nursing knowledge and skills. At the moment feel

comfortable graduating and preparing for the NCLEX. I have done well on all of my ATI exams.

I have already prepared a study plan for the NCLEX and I feel confident I will pass it the first

time.

My dream job would be in acute care. As I previously mentioned, I want to specialize in the

intensive care unit or emergency room. I’m also open to the post anesthesia care unit. One of the

most important things I have learned during my journey to become a registered nurse is how

strong and patient I have become. Nursing school is very difficult. I’ve faced fears along the way

I had to overcome. Many missed holidays and special occasions with family but I always knew, I

was making a short-term sacrifice for a long-term gain.
