Module 2 Application Answers - Elver Derequito

The document provides responses to application questions regarding measures of central tendency and relationships between variables in a cuisine dataset. For food, décor, and service ratings, the mean and mode are appropriate measures. The mean ratings are 24.8 for food, 21.46 for décor, and 23.1 for service. The mode ratings are 26 for food, 24 for décor, and 23 for service. For cuisine type, the median and mode are appropriate. The median is 1004 for Indian cuisine and the mode is 1001 for Korean cuisine. There are positive relationships between food and décor, food and service, and décor and service based on covariance results, indicating that increases in one variable tend to be associated with increases in

Lesson 6: Measures of Central Tendency

Application answers

Answer the following: 1. Which measures of central tendency would be appropriate to

describe the responses for food, décor, and service? Present it based on your learnings
in Lesson 5. Describe the results

With regards to the answer which measures of central tendency would be appropriate to
describe the data for food, decor and service it will be “mean” as this describes the value that
the average score on the excel file above based on the ratings of the responses coming from.
For food the mean score would be 24.8 out of 30, for decor is 21.46 and in the service part is
23.1 .

Mode can also be one measure of central tendency where in based on the results above for the
mode part. In the responses for food the most frequent score being used was 26, while for
decor is 24 and service is 23. Meaning usually the responses rates at those numbers
repetitively out of those 60 responses.

2. Which measures of central tendency would be appropriate to describe the responses

per type of cuisine? Present it based on your learnings in Lesson 5. Describe the
results a. Did you encounter an error when running in either in excel or SPSS? Try to
assign a number for each type of cuisine.

The measures of tendency that would be appropriate to describe the responses per type of
cuisine is the median and mode.
For the median based on the excel image on the number one meaning the middle part of the
responses is the number 1004 which translates to Indian cuisine.
For the mode wherein the most value/number that occurs most often is 1001 which is the
Korean cuisine.
I did encounter an error upon running the spss. But this was fixed by assigning a numerical
value per type of cuisine.

Please see legends below:

Application A researcher wanted to know which cuisine is more popular to the customers
in terms of: food, décor, and service (Cuisine Dataset). The researcher was able to
gather 66 responses presented in the dataset (use the same dataset in the Application
section of Lesson 6). Assume that the researcher required the respondents to rate food,
décor, and service from 1 to 30, wherein 1 is the lowest rate and 30 is the highest.
As what you may have observed when you conducted the “Descriptive Statistics” in
Excel and SPSS, the “range”, “variance”, and “standard deviation” were already
computed. Thus, you only need to compute for the Coefficient of Variation or Covariance
for the following statement of the problem:

a. Is there a relationship between food and décor? Interpret the results

- Yes there is a relationship between food and decor. Based on the covariance results in
excel. There are positive results between the two. Meaning the increase of one variable
also increases the other so if the decor variable increases then the food variable
increases as well. However if the decor variable increases greatly the food variable
decreases.

b. Is there a relationship between food and service? Interpret the results

- Yes there is a relationship between food and service as both variables have a positive
result.
c. Is there a relationship between decor and service? Interpret the results
- Yes there is a relationship between decor and service as both variables have a positive
result.
