How well did you learn the critical attributes of 21st century education? Let’s see as you work out this
activity. For each critical attribute in Column 1, provide Suggested Teaching and Learning Activities to
Achieve the Attribute in Column 2. In Column 3, write the word YES if you are currently doing these
suggested activities in your school, and NO if you are not. Item 8 has been done for you as an example.
Critical Attributes of 21st Suggested Teaching and Learning Are you currently doing these
Century Education Activities to Achieve the suggested activities? (Yes/No)
Attribute

perspective)
Take a good look at your output table and think about the teaching and learning practices in your
school. What does your output table talk about RSU-CED? Does RSU-CED manifest the critical
attributes of 21st century education? Share your personal experience or observation on the 21st
Century teaching and learning being practiced in the classroom or in the school.
Learning inside the classroom provides wider experience from both inside and outside the
corners of the room. There is lots of teaching learning practices that was implemented in order to make
the teaching more effective. Talking about my output, most of the teaching and learning activities does
not fully occurred in the RSU-CED specially at the present situation. Since there is no interaction
between the educators and the learners, it is partly impossible to accomplish those suggested teaching
and learning activities for the attributes to be achieved. But considering the set up before the pandemic
or the new normal education, before, a good seat can be reserved to RSU-CED for its successful
manifestation of the critical attributes of 21 st century education. I have been part of the department for
three long years now, and I can say that it was good indeed. I won’t make it too exaggerated in
acknowledging it as the best, because for me, by simply saying good means giving a lot of appreciation.
On my first year of being acquainted with the whole department, the teachers, my classmates and
other students I have gained contributions with a huge amount of knowledge, understanding and skills. I
simply learn how to deal with different people and was given the chance to engage in different
curricular activities. Sometimes we are given the chance to deal with different issues and learn how to
provide specific and clear suggestions or solutions. Those issues can either be local or international.
Aside from engaging us in real word problems, we are also subjected to enhance our skills in developing
digital literacy. Wherein there is a frequent use of technology on teaching and even on classroom
presentations.
(Activity 1.4)
ETHICAL UNDERSTANDING
MULTI- LITERACY
ICT CAPABILITY
CRITICAL AND CREATIVE THINKING
Teaching is like playing a musical instrument such as piano. You cannot compose a song with just
one tile to press nor one note to emphasize. You need to combine the perfect notes in order to produce
a new song or create a pleasant sound. Meaning you cannot fully implement an effective teaching alone
or with just one quality where you’ve been used to. The melody that was produced by the piano was
comparable to students who was starting to learn or in the process of learning. If the chosen notes did
not compliment with each other, surely the melody may gone wrong. If students did not receive the
appropriate qualities of good teaching, then just like the melody they may gone wrong as well and lose
track on the true essence of learning. In such case, melody will never be a pleasant sound and learning
will never be satisfying.
An effective teaching comprises different qualities, and I choose to granulate those qualities into
five namely, multi-literacy, pedagogical knowledge, critical and creative thinking, ICT capability and
ethical understanding. To effectively impart knowledge it is important to be become literate in many
aspects or should I say in all aspect. Because how can learning be effective if you know nothing? Or only
knew few. Multi-literate involves knowledge not only on basic teaching but also in using technology to
make teaching easier. In the sense of pedagogical knowledge, it involves specialized knowledge of
teacher for creating effective teaching and learning environments for all students. Critical and creative
thinking on the other hand is the ability to innovate ideas and propose in-depth inquiries that will boost
student’s curiosity and allowing them to crave for more learning and information. ICT capability will then
join the frame, it is important to become well trained and knowledgeable in different forms of
technology especially nowadays for information has been greatly influenced by the new technologies.
And lastly is the ethical understanding, which both emphasizes moral behaviour and good character.
That in making teaching effective, it is not only the brain that works but also the heart.
