Practical Research 2: Research Questions, Scope & Delimitation

The document provides information about research questions, scope, and delimitation. It defines key terms such as research questions, scope, and delimitation. It explains that research questions are essential elements of research that help address problems. Scope specifies the parameters of a study, while delimitation describes boundaries set for a study. The document also provides examples of properly structured research questions and discusses how to determine a study's scope and delimitations.

PRACTICAL RESEARCH 2

QUARTER 1- MODULE 5:
RESEARCH QUESTIONS, SCOPE & DELIMITATION

WHAT I KNOW:
1. What is the difference between objective or purpose of the study and research
questions or investigative problems?
- B.
2. Which of the following is not a characteristic of a good research question?
- C.
3. What does scope and delimitation of the study tell?
- A.
4. What does delimitation mean?
- D.
5. Which of the following statements DOES NOT correctly define the scope of the
study?
- D.

WHAT’S IN:

1. QUESTIONS- It is a request for information and it sought to provide answers.

2. RESEARCH- gathering information and data to draw conclusions and provide
recommendation.
3. TITLE- It is an eye-catching sentence that describes the topic and content of an
information or story.
4. BACKGROUND- It is the overview of the topic.
5. COMPLEX- It is multi‐factorial or complex designs because they are concerned
with more than one factor.

WHAT’S NEW:

WHAT’S MORE:

1. What are the steps in developing a research question? Write your answers on
the space provided below.

a. Choose an interesting general topic

b. Do some preliminary research on your general topic.
c. Consider your audience
d. Start asking question
e. Evaluate your question

2. Discuss the concept of scope and delimitation of the study.

The scope and delimitations of a thesis, dissertation or research paper define

the topic and boundaries of the research problem to be investigated. The scope
details how in-depth your study is to explore the research question and the
parameters in which it will operate in relation to the population and timeframe. The
delimitations of a study are the factors and variables not to be included in the
investigation. In other words, they are the boundaries the researcher sets in terms of
study duration, population size and type of participants, etc.

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED:

1. Delimitation- It limits the scope and describe the boundaries that you have set for
the study. It is the boundary of the outer line of a research. It is based on the
researcher what to exclude and what to include.
2. Scope- explains the extent to which the research area will be explored in the
work and specifies the parameters within the study will be operating. Basically,
this means that you will have to define what the study is going to cover and what
it is focusing on.
3. Limitation- are influences that the researcher cannot control. They are the
shortcomings, conditions or influences that cannot be controlled by the
researcher that place restrictions on your methodology and conclusions.
4. Research questions- A research question is a specific inquiry which the research
seeks to provide a response to. It resides at the core of systematic investigation .
5. Statement of the Problem- used in research work as a claim that outlines the
problem addressed by a study. A good research problem should address an
existing gap in knowledge in the field and lead to further research.

WHAT I CAN DO:

A. Formulate the possible research question

1. In what level of writing proficiency is the Grade 11 students inclined?

2. In what level of writing proficiency is the Grade 11 students have difficulty?

B. Determine the delimitation on:

1. Topic to be covered- Writing proficiency level of students in English in terms
of grammar.
2. Respondents- The Grade 11 HUMSS students of KNCHS
3. Methodology- The researcher’s validated questionnaires was used to assess
learner’s writing proficiency level. Only the best learner areas was addressed
using the researcher’s developed contextualized module.

C. Make your own research title about COVID-19 Pandemic and craft atleast 3
research questions.

THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE COVID 19 VACCINATION TO THE SENIOR

CITIZENS OF SENATOR NINOY AQUINO
1. What are the effects of the vaccine to the health of the senior citizens?
2. What are the preventive measures of the vaccine to the senior citizens?
3. What are the protect measures of the vaccine to the senior citizens?

ASSESSMENT:

1. Based on the research title below, craft atleast 3 research questions.

STUDY HABITS AND LEARNING PERFORMANCE OF GRADE 11 TVL STUDENTS

a. What are the study habits of Grade 11 TVL students?
b. What is the learning performance of Grade 11 TVL students?
c. What are the strategy of Grade 11 students in studying?

2. Formulate at least two quantitative research questions about each of the

following topic.

a. Gender equality
- How many people are in favor to the same sex marriage?
- In what level of acceptance did most of the people agree?
b. Learning styles
- What is the effectiveness of the learning styles to the students?
- What are the effects of the learning styles to the mental health of the
students?
c. School policy
- What is the total percentage of the students who follow the school policy?
- In what level of abiding do the students practice?
