Covid-19 Inspection
We had a visit from our Department of Education
Inspector, Jean Pender on Friday, 5th of November.
She carried out a comprehensive inspection of all
Covid-19 policies and procedures we have in place
Reminder-School Attendance
We would like to remind parents that if your child cannot attend school you must inform the
teacher; you may do so by writing a short note, calling the office and leaving a message or
messaging through the Seesaw app. We are legally obliged to keep a record of all
absences and would appreciate your support. The school day begins at 9am and finishes at
1.40/2.40; we ask that (where possible)children arrive on time and that appointments are made
outside of school hours.
Parents’ Association News and Notices
The Parents’ Association have arranged line selling in Eurospar, Bunclody on Friday & Sat 10th &
11th of December. Thank you to all parents who have returned their time slots; if you are
available to help out over the two days please let the PA know.
Thank you to all parents who sent in donations for the Christmas Hampers. Raffle cards will be
sent home with children today. Please return cards by Friday, 17th December, as the draw will
take place on Sunday, 19th. Thank you for your support.
Recycled Christmas Decoration Competition
We are proud to be a Green Flag School and every year we hold a ‘Recycled Christmas
Decoration Competition’. We would love for everyone to take part. Decorations can be made
from any old, recycled, reused materials that you would find around the home. Have fun creating
and bring in you entry to school on Thursday, 16th December to be in with a chance to win one of
four €10 vouchers!
Christmas ‘Stockings Advent Calendar’
The children have all shared ideas for activities for our Advent Calendar; every day we will take
down a stocking and do the suggested activity; there will be hot chocolates,
scavenger hunts, pyjama days and more to look forward to over the coming weeks.
Children’s Flu Vaccine
Children aged 2-12 can get the flu vaccine for free. This nasal spray vaccine protects children
from the flu and reduces the chance of them spreading flu to others. Contact your GP or
pharmacist for more information.
Christmas Crafts
The children in both classrooms will be involved in making Christmas Crafts. We would normally
invite parents to help out but due to restrictions this cannot happen this year.
Christmas Carolling and Mini-Concerts
The children from both classes are busy practicing their Christmas tunes and songs at the
moment. They will be performing a mini-Christmas concert in school in the run up to Christmas.
We will record and upload some highlights from the show on Seesaw and our website. Weather
permitting we will also sing some Christmas songs outside the school on Friday ,17th December
at 9.10am. If parents wish they can wear a mask and stand socially distanced outside the school
wall to join in.
A Very Special Zoom Call
We are very, very excited to tell you that we will have a special Zoom call over the coming
weeks. This caller is taking time out of his very busy schedule to fit in a call with the boys and
girls of Castledockrell National School. The children can all look forward to a fun-filled morning
with some festive treats!
Board of Management
We recognise and acknowledge that this Christmas will be a different Christmas for all of us
(again), for many reasons. Thank you to everyone for your continued support during this past
year. Stay strong, stay safe and have a lovely Christmas break.
Christmas Holidays
The school will close at 12 noon on Wednesday, 22nd December and reopen on Thursday, 6th
January 2022. We wish each and every one of you a safe, happy, joyful and peaceful Christmas.
Every best wish for the New Year.
