(l goal while finishing up the anki cards howe extensive rather than intensive language
exposure)

(Note also that you did not add cognates to anki so to port them to your active vocab
you need tons of exposure and comprehensible input)

(after finishing these foundations the plan is to go through medical anime/books and do
intensive reading to add the relevant vocab to anki + find ways to immerse yourself in
the language when in italy)

After vocab, modern, assimil cards:

Go through highlighted words in “nuovo vocabulario phase 2” and add the ones you still
do not know via taobeta

After steins is done watch an anime about medicine like blackjack for the vocab

Italian Listening Comprehension Practice (speechling.com)

(Fondamentale - among the main entries, the words with a very high frequency are labelled as such, whose
occurrence represents around 90% of the lexical findings among the whole body of written texts and spoken
conversations.

Alto uso - words with a high frequency, whose occurrence represents around 6% of the lexical findings among the
whole body of written texts and spoken conversations.

Alta disponibilità - words relatively rare in speaking or writing, but all of which are well known, because they are
related to actions or objects of major importance in everyday's life (e.g. "big toe", "flock", "bodywork", "customs", etc.).

The three groups of words (the third one is the most exposed to cultural changes, and requires relatively frequent
updatings) represent as a whole the “basic vocabulary)

Misc:
- Stop looking for info in forums and start using google
scholar
- But I also doubt it is possible to go to a high level in a language solely (or
largely) relying on Anki.

The reason I doubt is that, whatever happens early on in language learning,

there is a point were you are essentially training up a new bit of neural tissue
devoted to your TL. This new language area is strengthened only when you
are using your TL. This is just Hebb's law; when neurons fire together their
connections are strengthened. When you want to strengthen the brain area
associated with your TL you need to use your TL (not study it at some remove
but use it). That's why input is so helpful, because you are strongly
strengthening semantic and grammatical connections within the brain-areas
devoted to your TL.
When you are using Anki (as it is commonly used) you are not so much
strengthening your new-TL-brain-area, but you strengthening
correspondences between the brain areas devoted to your first and TL
language areas. That's why learning 10000 words in Anki, plus memorizing a
grammar book in your TL, won't give you C1 in your TL, because you'll end
up training areas different from your TL-brain-area.

You essentially get good at answering increasingly sophisticated questions

about your TL, without necessary getting good at the TL itself.

Of course, you could create Anki cards that are essentially native input (e.g.,
sentences and the like) but I strongly wonder what the point of doing that is.
Why not read book instead?\

- What you wrote about was the importance of vocabulary acquisition at

advanced levels. I believe the thread was about the difficulties people have in
listening to native content and you said something about the fact that,
although we all assume our problem is that people are talking too fast,
shortening words, etc, actually it is often just because there are a significant
number of unknown words in the mix. It is those words that sound like a
muddle, and probably make the words surrounding them sound unfamiliar as
well because they're in an unfamiliar context. Anyway, that's my paraphrase
of what you wrote, but I realized that vocabulary is a crucial part of breaking
into advanced levels. Before, I sort of thought once I knew the most common
words I would pick up the rest from context, but in reality a certain amount of
vocabulary study is helpful (necessary?) at all levels.

- (beyond the top 2000 words, learning can either continue with general
vocabulary, or can become increasingly focused to reflect learners' real needs
