Follow-up questions

1. Do you agree with the differentiation between the the West and the East?
2. Where can you find the Philippines in the distinction?
3. What are the factors that make the Philippines similar or different from its
Asian neighbors?
4. is there also a difference between regions or ethnolinguistics groups in the
Philippines?
1. Yes, I agree because being an Asian, some of it are still practiced in our
home. Even in movies and all sorts of entertainment of western and eastern
countries, the cultural differences are shown and emphasized.

2. The Philippines belongs to the Eastern world. The table clearly explains
why, the culture, way of thinking, customs and traditions.

3. ” Less Asian” is a different way to describe Philippines. It's less Asian in a

way that it has a lot more fast food, especially so many American fast food
chains. You can still see the Spanish influence and American influence, for
example so many people speak great English with strong American accents
and there are more advertisements. But it's still our own country, with the
culture and local food being non-American, which is very authentic. On the
other hand, Philippines is similar to other Asian countries when it comes to
the beliefs, traditions and personality. We could still see a passing
resemblance between Philippines and/or other Southeast Asian countries due
to the geographical proximity and cultural exchange/influences.

4. Yes, Filipinos are very different culturally from one island to the next in all
honesty. We may seem the same but there are cultural and regional
differences. Philippines have a diverse culture and that includes differences
in language and dialects that are spoken by the natives. They have their own
way of communicating to themselves and to other tribes, unique rituals, and
their way of living is very different from each other for it depends on their
topography and location. Not just the language but also food, festivals and
music differ from one region to another. Some tangible differences from the
top of my head are; Bicolanos are known for using coconut milk in their
cooking and loves spicy food, different regions have their own trademark
festivals to honor their patron saints for example Cebuanos have Sinulog and
Hiligaynons have their Dinagyang Festival, when it comes to personality
admittedly based on anecdotes, but a general consensus is that Ilocanos are
thrifty, and more reserved compared to the rest of the ethnic groups.
