The first student learning outcome I achieved was written communication and I achieved this in
all my projects, however for an example, of this would be in my complaint letter. Ultimately, just
like the rest of the projects, its essential for the reader to be able to comprehend what the authors
message is. Without writing a coherent document that your audience can understand and is easy
to read, in this case, writing a coherent brief report is essential in achieving your message.
The second student learning outcome I accomplished was reviewing and editing. I accomplished
this in the Chevron Corporation report. Fortunately, by reviewing and editing my report, I
created a coherent and mistake free brief report about the Chevron Corporation. Without
reviewing and editing, how effective is the document? Unfortunately, if the document is not
reviewed and edited, it adds confusion to the reader and the message will become lost. Just like
before, I can’t stress this enough, it’s essential to create a mistake free document for the reader to
be able to comprehend your arguments and understand your position.
The third student learning outcome I achieved is content development. This was accomplished
by creating a brief report that knew its audience. Unfortunately, without knowing your audience
it is quite possible to create a document that is either too complex or way to simplistic. I can’t
stress this enough, unfortunately, if you do not know who you audience is, your document is
doomed to fail. It is also important, that your document comes off as fair and based on research.
Sadly, a document that comes off as biased loses its value to the audience.
The fourth student learning outcome I accomplished was project analysis, which I accomplished
in creating my research proposal. I learned that without using project analysis, I would have set
my proposal up to fail. Being able to identify who my target audience is crucial in creating
documents such as my research proposal. Sadly, if I targeted the wrong audience to read my
proposal, it would automatically lose its message. Fortunately, by using project analysis, my
proposal was an effective way to respond to specific situations such as in this case food
insecurity and hunger. Using proposals to reach important members of the community to solve
such issues as food insecurity and hunger is vital for the community.
The fifth student learning objective I achieved is production and delivery and I accomplished this
in creating an infographic flyer. Fortunately, being able to learn how to create an infographic
flyer that went with my memos was challenging but is useful for the future. Overall, creating an
infographic flyer that presents the information to the public on my portfolio is essential for
creating an effective infographic flyer.
The sixth student learning objective I accomplished was visual communication which I
accomplished my infographic flyer. Creating an infographic flyer that used a graph and some
data I was able to create an impactful flyer. Ultimately, by utilizing visual design principles, my
flyers message wasn’t lost and had the graphed data to show the damage Chevron is doing to the
environment. Unfortunately, an infographic flyer that doesn’t utilize visual communication isn’t
much of an infographic flyer at all.
The seventh student learning objective I accomplished was project planning which I
accomplished this in my research jobs assignment. Being able to do the research that gave me the
correct information on how to obtain these jobs were vital. Conducting research that is valuable
is crucial. Without using project planning, how would I ever been able to create an accurate
research jobs document.
Finally, the ninth student learning objective I accomplished was content management, which I
accomplished in the creation of my portfolio. Creating my portfolio was all new to me, however,
it allowed me to present my information and documents in a well-organized way. Without using
content management, I would not be able to create a portfolio that was impactful.
Ultimately, without using all nine of the student learning objectives, I would have never been
able to become a better technical writer. If you asked me in July how to create a portfolio, I
would have look at you confused. I was never much of a technical writer. I am honestly just a
research machine, I can write beautiful APA research papers, however, now after this semester, I
feel that I am much more than just that.
