Activity 1. The Information Age

1. What has been the impact of the Internet to you (Positive and Negative)?
The Internet is not only a ‘technology’ anymore; it has become an integral part of our
lives in every way. Back in the second half of 21st century, the internet was believed to be a luxury
and that too which only the offices or companies could afford. Very few homes had computers and
even fewer had the internet connection. And even those who had the internet connections didn’t
have fast access to ‘everything’ like people do today. The Internet has, no doubt, in the true sense
of the word taken over the world in all spheres of life and the impact is both positive as well as
negative. Usage of the internet is increasing day by day, people are getting habitual to it and
totally depends upon it. If we take the example of ‘Google ‘in true sense it has taken over the
world in all spheres of life. Information about each domain is present on the Google. In other
words, it made the whole word handy for us.
Influence of Internet can be examined with the invention of social networks like
Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and much more are connecting the people across the boundaries.
The invention of Facebook was made in a single university and now it has grasped the attention
of 2.1 billion people of the globe. The social networks like Twitter are used by celebrities and
proponents of big institutions. They share their views with the masses which are regarded with
great significance. In the 21st century, the age of globalization is declared due to extensive use of
social networks. Business companies are also using social media for the promotion of their
brands. Formal communication between business exponents is also done by using social
networks as a medium. Social networks are the great success and impact of the internet. In the
field of education, the internet has successfully changed the dynamics. The students today do not
need to go to the institution, nor do they need any transport that would deliver them to their
institutions. As we are gaining the degrees by the online sources this is only due to the internet. I
am doing this online course of English. Use the internet to search different articles for the
drafting of my assignments and research papers.

2. How do you fact-check the information you heard and learned from the web?

Fake news articles are everywhere, it increasingly become a big fixture in the internet.
Some posts, designed to deceive, run rampant across the internet. Only later, if ever, do
readers discover that the stories they shared may have been false. So in able for us to prevent
the spread of fake news, here is the steps or guide to fact-check the information we see on the
internet:
