Brief Module Description
This module will provide you with knowledge of management principles, methodologies, tools and techniques that may
be used in Civil Engineering industry. Organizational and human resource factors are also included. You will develop an
understanding of what constitutes a project and the role of a project manager. The module will also provide you with
the ability to analyse and plan the activities needed to carry out the project, including how to set up a project, how to
control and execute a project, and how to carry out project reviews. You will learn how to demonstrate how the project
fits into the company or other organisational environment

Learning Activities
Lectures, tutorials, in class discussions, independent study and research.

Lectures are used to provide you with knowledge on the key topics relating to this module are learning outcomes.
Lectures on specific topics will be supplemented by a number of activities relating to the coursework assignment
component of this module. You will also be expected to participate in independent study; In particular relating to
the researching and completion of the assignment coursework. You will demonstrate digital literacy by
researching for the coursework assignment, involving significant online searching for relevant material, and then
producing a professionally written and presented essay, using word¬ processing software. The coursework will
demonstrate your abilities to make educated judgements about the information found on¬line through the
electronic resources. You will develop detailed knowledge of the module topics, and an in ¬depth knowledge of
the chosen topic for the coursework assignment. This will involve you in undertaking a research investigation
comprising searching, reviewing, analysing and synthesising secondary data. You will need to demonstrate
enterprise in your approach to discovering recent and relevant literature sources

 All lecturer material, and support documents such as: data sheets, case studies, and hyperlinks to appropriate web
sites, are available on Faculty LMS
 Formative exercises are provided on Faculty LMS. These include feedback to highlight perceived problem areas and
to indicate procedures for arriving at correct solutions.
 Students are encouraged to join the forum, which facilitates discussion and promotes the interchange of ideas –
particularly with regard to the formative exercises.
