1.0 SCOPE
The following procedure is for termination of Glenair Fiber Optic Termini size 16, M29504/04 & 05 style, MIL-DTL-38999 series III.
4.6 Wipe off the bare fiber with Isopropyl Alcohol immediately after stripping.
Warning: Uncoated fiber degrades when exposed to air. Termination must be done within 10 minutes.
4.7 Prepare epoxy according to manufacturer’s instruction. (See step 6 for list of recommended epoxies)
4.8 Fill syringe with epoxy and eliminate all air bubbles.
4.9 Insert syringe into rear of terminus and fill ferrule with epoxy until a small bead of epoxy is at the tip of the ferrule. Retract the syringe while
filling.
4.10 FIBER INSERTION
4.10.1 Fold back strength members and distribute them evenly over outer jacket of cable.
4.10.2 Carefully insert stripped fiber into terminus until the cable jacket bottoms against the back of the terminus body.
4.10.3 Wipe off any excess epoxy from the rear of the terminus upon insertion of the fiber/cable.
4.10.4 Bare fiber should stick out of the front of terminus approximately 0.17”. See figure 2.
4.10.5 Be sure that the exterior surfaces of termini are free of epoxy.
4.10.6 Distribute strength members evenly around the circumference of the rear body.
4.10.7 Slide shrink tubing to base of terminus shoulder, capturing the strength member
4.10.8 Using a heat gun, apply heat until shrink tubing fits snuggly. Do not overheat.
Warning: overheating can cause damage to cable
