1. Define and explain the 4 major branches of anthropology

Answer:
Archaeology
Archaeology examines peoples and cultures of the past.

- Archaeology is the field of study that allows us to look back six million years, to
understand past peoples and cultures. Archaeologist study humanity, what we are,
who we are, and how we believe and act on the world, through the things people
left behind.

Biological Anthropology
Biological anthropology specializes in evolution, genetics, and health.

- Biological anthropologists’ endeavor to understand the evolutionary origins and


consequences of human biological variation. Human biologists investigate the
effects of culture and ecology on human adaptation, development, and health.

Cultural Anthropology
Cultural anthropology studies human societies and elements of cultural life.

- Cultural anthropologists study how people who share a common cultural system
organize and shape the physical and social world around them, and are in turn
shaped by those ideas, behaviors, and physical environments. Cultural
anthropology is hallmarked by the concept of culture itself.

Linguistic Anthropology
Linguistic anthropology is a concentration of cultural anthropology that focuses on
language in society.

- Linguistic anthropology is a concentration within Cultural Anthropology that


emphasizes qualitative approaches to the study of language in society, with
particular attention to the roles of verbal and written expression in social inequality,
political economy, language ideology, immigration, law, colonialism, race,
ethnicity, gender, generation, and class.

2. Choose 5 critiques of the nature of the four major branches of anthropology and
explain briefly.
Answer:
a. Each uses different techniques and examine somewhat different subject
matters but they all share the goal of understanding humanity and its idea of culture.
- Every individual has different subject matters that can help in our cultures that
can compose of humanity that desires unity and humanity in our community.

b. Culture represents one of the great scientific discoveries of the 19" and 20"
centuries, is the human behavior.
- It represents the greatest scientific discoveries because of the living in time of
the wild and what generation comes from the culture and that’s why the
discoveries were studied that because it is the chance to know their ancestry.
c. Each person has its own sociological and anthropological character which
comprises culture.
- Every individual has its own sociology that interact to human interaction to
study and discover their generation and this important to know and having a
knowledge is very important. Anthropological it is study of the origin of the
material that study to or what culture does passionate to our ancestry to do
that and that’s why we have that we need to embrace it and accept it because
this is a blessing.
d. Anthropology is another discipline so closely related to sociology that the two
are frequently indistinguishable.
- Anthropology as a discipline is so closely related to sociology that the two are
frequently indistinguishable. Both of them are fast growing. The socio-cultural
anthropologists today are also making a study of the present peoples and their
societies.
e. Sociology investigates only the social organizations and social relationships.
- Sociologists study how society affect people and how people affect society and
it is study of society, human social interaction and the rules and processes that
bind and separate people, not only as individuals but as human being that can
organize how society can do.

the automobile and phonograph, first developed at the end of the 19 th
century, were perfected and universally deployed.

c. Human behavior as one of the greatest discoveries, unlike that of any other
animal species, is uniquely influenced and determined by cultural traditions
that are transmitted among groups of human beings primarily by means of
language.

- Human culture encompasses ideas, behaviors, and artifacts that can be
learned and transmitted between individuals and can change over time.
Before human nature and their behavior animal species was uniquely
influenced to determined their species their nature their families and their
evolution on how they evolve. Because of them human beings were study
them and discover their transmission on their past.

d. Each person has its own sociological and anthropological character which
comprises culture.
- Sociological culture is understanding the culture as the languages,
customs, beliefs, rules, art, knowledge, and collective identities and
memories developed by members of all social groups that make their social
environments. It is evaluating the studies of the production, diffusion and
etc., then anthropology cultures it is study how people who share a
common cultural system organize and shape the physical and social world
around them.

e. Anthropology is not just a study of human beings, but it is the study of human
beings living in societies and following distinctive ways of life labelled “culture”.
- It is important to have anthropology because of that we can know about human
cultures adapt and transformation that the world how they live. It is used
understand human difference and the ideas that benefits in our culture.

3. Choose 2 sciences in relation to sociology and explain.

Answer: Anthropology and Political science. Anthropology study of origin, material


culture, artifacts, and fossils. Then, political science studied the organization,
administration, history and theory of government.

4. Choose 3 sciences in relation to anthropology and explain.

Answer: Economics, Psychology, History. Economics it is distribute of wealthy,


production of foods and suppliers that develop in nature of anthropology. Psychology
it is concerned with human mind and behavior and the same object applies to
anthropology because that later offer a wider factual base where theories or
assumptions may be applied or tested. History it is related in anthropology to study the
past that they need to briefly giving an information of the anthropologist.
