Writing 1.2

To summarize, job sculpting involves customizing an employee's job responsibilities and career path to align with their interests and strengths in order to increase retention. This is done by having managers understand each employee's embedded life interests rather than just their skills. Retaining valuable employees involves placing them into roles within the eight main business functions that allow them to express their interests, such as distribution, IT, R&D, etc. Matching jobs to interests increases work satisfaction and makes employees less likely to leave the company.

1. How to sell ‘ yourself ‘ to be accepted in a job interview?

Your impressive résumé and glowing recommendations may be enough to land you an interview — but
they won't get you the job.

Once you're in the hot seat, it's up to you to really sell yourself to the employer.

"As a job applicant, you're selling your personal brand to an employer, hoping they'll entrust you with
the role."

To be successful in a job intervoew , you need to do these things:

a. Carry yourself with confident

b. Be assertive ( in showing ‘yourself ‘)
c. Know what employer want
d. Focus on your stengths and imply that they are so useful for the position you are appyling
for.
e. List some frequent questions before interview, make sure your answers are brief, convincing
and memorable to interviewers.

2. The ad and disad of cross-functional task force?

-Definition: The organizatinal team consisting of members at the same hierarchy but serving in
different areas.
a. Pros:
+ Can greatly increase creativity and problem solving with the use of cross-functional teams
because of their composition.
+ Members come with a diversity of experiences, expertise and knowledge. This diversity can
help broaden perspectives and create a synergy - where interaction of the members create a
greater effect than the sum effects of each member acting alone - leading to a high level of
creativity.
+ Promotes team pride, encourages bonding and trust and improves morale.
+ faster responses to technological change; improved reaction to external competition and
increasing familiarity; and comfort with conflict and conflict resolution.

b. Cons:
+The team can take significantly longer to develop cohesion because members come from
different experiences and backgrounds.
+Moreover, a team leader must take care in managing team relationships carefully because
there may be a high level of conflict in these teams due to unit rivalry, egos and possible conflict
between the interests of the various parts of the organization represented by team members.
+ A lot of money is used to create a workplace for a cross-functional members. If it failed, people
have to come back mother department and have trouble in adapting this working style.
3. What is the purpose of product development?

Definition: Product development is a process which is designed to develop, test and consider the
viability of products which are new to the market in order to ensure the growth or survival of the
organization.

Purposes:

However, despite this process being elaborate, costly and complicated, it is quite necessary to a
firm.

+Firstly, a firm’s administration needs to do this especially when competition is strong in their
markets. In doing so, the firm can have another product to rely on, or they can introduce a new
product, when competition from other firms is heavy.

+Secondly, innovation is compulsory for the continued success of a firm. No matter how successful a
product is, there will come a time when it enters a period of decline and given the long period
needed to develop them, it is important to have new products in tow.

+Also, firms need to meet changing customer needs and competitors actions. Therefore New
Product Development is necessary as the tastes and needs of consumers change so that the firm will
be up to date with its customers.

+In addition the life cycle of many products change at very fast rates. New Product Development is
therefore necessary for the survival of any firm. New Product Development is therefore not an
optional matter, it has to be done just to survive in today’s dynamic market with its ever changing
technology, as the rate with which technology is increasing tends to render many products obsolete.

4. What do you look for in a product you buy: feature or benefit ? Why?

+ Features are defined as surface statements about your product, such as what it can do, its
dimensions and specs and so on.
+Benefits, by definition, show the end result of what a product can actually accomplish for the
reader.
-Both features and benefits are equally important for effective advertising copy, but at the end
of the day, it will be the benefits that give you the best advantages for converting customers. If I
were a customer, I would notice benefits more than features when go shopping. These are
several reasons:
+ Selling a product only with its features, it cannot convince your customer to buy it. Features
are always boring and sometimes confusing. For example, the technical specs on a laptop might
not make sense to a customer unless they’re familiar with computers. However, the benefit of
having a fast laptop that can store a lot of photos, videos and music is something that any
computer owner can relate to.
+ Although some people cannot distinguish between feature and benefit, it is clear to show that
benefit is related to emotional level and feature is not. When you show the benefits of your
product, think of it like telling a story. You want to engage the audience and leave them feeling
an emotional connection. Through the story, you can make a stronger connection between your
brand and the audience.
+ Moreover, benefits are related to the target audience.Take the time to get to know your
target audience and figure our how your product or service can help them solve the problems
they face in life. However, your benefits should change depending on the needs of the target
audience. The more you know about the customer, the more benefits you can find for your
product. Knowing what your customer likes about your product also allows you to find new
benefits that you might not have realized yet. For example……

Both feature and benefit are crucial keys to sell a product. The good news is that features can
always be transformed into benefits. In fact, this process will help you create the strongest
benefits possible. To achieve this transformation, simply tell the audience how the feature will
benefit them.Every one of your product’s features can be turned into a benefit with a little
practice. Doing so will also help you better understand what your audience is looking for in a
product like yours.

5. What is a good presentation?

Presentation is good or bad, it depends in a lot of factors. A good presentation includes these
things:
- Slides are attractive, few words and many pictures or graphics.
- believe in what you’re saying 100%, to communicate straight from your heart and try to
tell people something real because “information without emotion is not retained.”
- Be confident and learn by heart all the information
- Good presentations contain valid information. Each piece of data is thoroughly fact-
checked, accurate, and never misleading. Good presentations provide honest data in an
honest way.
- Good presentations include stories. Unlike facts, stories speak to the heart, and every
good presentation uses stories to illustrate points and to help people make an
emotional connection to the message.
6. How to differentiate your product ?
- Price
- Innovation
- Service
- Convenience
7. What is job sculpting and how are the eight respective business functions being used to retain
valuable employees?
- Job sculpting is the art of matching people to jobs that allow their deeply embedded life
interests to be expressed. It is the art of forging a customized career path in order to
increase the chance of retaining talented people. Make no mistake—job sculpting is
challenging; it requires managers to play both detective and psychologist. The reason:
many people have only a dim awareness of their own deeply embedded life interests.
They may have spent their lives fulfilling other people’s expectations of them, or they
may have followed the most common career advice: “Do what you’re good at.”
- Ways to retain valuable people:
Hiring good people is tough, but as every senior executive knows, keeping them can be
even tougher. Many talented professionals leave their organizations because senior
managers don’t understand the psychology of work satisfaction; they assume that
people who excel at their work are necessarily happy in their jobs. Life interests don’t
determine what we’re good at but what kinds of work we love. These core functions
represent the way deeply embedded life interests find expression in business. The
following is a summary of each:
+ distribution and logistics
+ information and communication technology (ICT) services
+ administrative and management functions
+ engineering and related technical services
+ research & development (R & D)

8. Do you expect to work for one company the whole life or want to work for several different
ones?

a.Career choice
If you haven't yet decided what career path you want to take, working in different industries can
give you firsthand insight of what such jobs require. Young, inexperienced workers are especially
prone to job hopping, and for good reason -- it gives them real-world experience of varied
industries.

b.Broader Experience
Your experience gives you a better ability to appreciate an excellent workplace with a pleasant
boss and good salary and benefits -- as well as quickly recognize one in which some or all of
those aspects are below par.

c.Varied Skills
A diverse workplace history allows you to target your skills to a broader range of potential
employers. You can tie the pieces of your job history together to fit different job openings. For
example, if your past jobs were in editing, secretarial and sales, you can tell a potential
employer that your sales and editing skills could be put to good use in his public relations
department. However, you could also use that job history to apply for an opening as a secretary
in the sales or editorial departments.

d.Fresh Perspective
Your workplace experience can be a goldmine of information to a new employer, particularly if
you're moving to a small company from a larger one. Your knowledge of best work practices
may bring your new employer information that cost your previous employer thousands of
dollars in consulting fees. While it probably isn't a good idea to blurt this out, you might
highlight any experience in the sales or tech department of a large corporation.
9. You have no idea how your career will develop or you have a clear idea of your career path?
Why?

I don’t have a dream job. Somepeople think having a dream job is the greatest thing, however the
truth is not the same. You have to try much to gain it but you used to ask yourself if you liked it or
not.

In reality, many people usually choose wrong jobs at first, some takes time to find out which jobs
they really want and be happy. Therefore, I wonder and am scared of working at the wrong place
where I not really belong to.

I am a sophomore and study English business major. I amnot sure which I should choose because
there are too many jobs relating to this major. If I spend time thinking carefully, I would pursue one
in my life interests. It makes me happy and efficient more in working instead of choosing a job only
by money and perks.

I know that this decision is very important so that it isn’t actually bad when I don’t make any
decisions. I will soon have idea for it and try day-to-day for my future job.

10. You are responsible for creating your own career within an organization.

You are working well for your present employer, however gone are the days and you need to
develop your own career path. These are some tips:

Measure Your Progress: As you move along in your career, assess your progress periodically. “Every
six months you have to reevaluate your short-term and long-term professional objectives,” Aretakis
says. Use your own metrics, which could include additions to your portfolio of responsibilities and
regular contact with high executives in your company.

Take Over Your Professional Development: “It behooves the employee to go after the company’s
career-development opportunities, to show how development would serve the organization and the
individual,” says career coach Janine Moon of CompassPoint Coaching in Columbus, Ohio. However,
the bottom line on professional development is that you own it. “You’ll always have to take care of
skills and knowledge and make sure they’re current,” Moon says. “Build a pool of money to ensure
your own development over the course of your career.”
Work with Your Mentors: Check in with your long-term professional allies and mentors, many of
whom won’t be your bosses. “You always need to have mentors inside and outside your employer,
experienced people with an interest in your personal and professional well-being,” Aretakis says.

Know When to Move On: Don’t stick with a company that lacks the opportunities or culture to
empower your career progress. “If you have a core set of skills, good companies will let you go
places with them,” Freeman says. “I’m on teams that have nothing to do with my daily job. You can
get involved with new business or with transforming a business process.”

11. ‘Move towards your long-term goals in small and easy stages
3 processes:
a. Developing long-term goals
+ Ask yourself where you'd like your life to be in the next few years
+ Build a goal from your broad ideas
+ Write out a specific goal
+ Separate short and long-term goals.
+ Assess your goal to make sure it's manageable
b. Achieving long-term goals
+ Commit to one long-term goal at a time
+ Break your goal into sub-goals
+ Set up a timetable for your goal and sub-goals
+ Work on your self-discipline
+ Develop habits that aid in accomplishing your goal
+ Review your progress regularly
+ Identify obstacles you might encounter
c. Staying Motivated for Long-Term Goals
+ Take breaks regularly
+ Try to make your goal fun
+ Celebrate your successes

12. How do you define’failure’?

Failure is the state or condition of not meeting a desirable or intended objective and usually
viewed as the opposite of success. But then, it depends upon the viewpoint.

For example, take the medical case where "the operation was successful, but the patient died".
From the doctor's viewpoint, the operation was quite successful - meaning he performed it
exactly as it should be done, within the allotted time, and without any problem, scoring full
marks. But from the point of view of the patient and his relatives, it was a failure.
For most people, failure is "bad". While we all want success, it’s not always guaranteed.
However, a failure that results from well-designed and well tried effort can be worthy of praise.
Failure is a common occurrence in our lives and a part of our existence. In a "competitive"
world, everyone cannot be successful.

If you need your life to be purposeful, life requires you to take certain risks by sometimes
venturing into the unknown. When there is a failure, the ability to recover from setback and
move forward is essential. That's the reason why you need to have an attitude of benefiting
from failure. Haven't you heard - "When you fall, it is not a failure; it is a failure when you do
not get up"

13.
14.
15. As a manager, how would you manager working with someone who does not like you?
16. How to write a good CV?
1) First impressions count. Use the headline in your curriculum Vitae to brand yourself and to
convey very specific information about the value you can offer. You’ve got it right, if someone
could invite you for an interview just after seeing this part.

2) Make sure your CV reads well. Keep it simple, concise and to the point. Avoid too much
information crammed in one section. Make it easier for recruiters to screen your CV. If they
cannot find what they are looking for there is no chance they will put you forward for the job.

3). In your CV writing show your achievements. Employers look for candidates who can solve
their problems and deliver the results, so remember to highlight your accomplishments and tell
them how you have helped your previous employers.

4) Target your Curriculum Vitae to the specific job. There is no need to write about everything
you did in your career. Include only the information which is relevant to the position you want
to apply for. If you’re making a change in your career it is very important to focus on your
transferable skills.

5) Use key words. It is a great practice to review a couple of job specifications and find the most
common words included in the requirements section. Make sure you use them in your CV - just
by doing that you will incredibly increase your chances of being selected for an interview.
