3 Troubleshooting and Service

3.1 Software updates

Software updates are installed via a personal computer.

Requirements:
• Personal computer with OS Windows
• serial COM interface or USB-COM-adapter
• crossed RS-232-cable with two female ends

Update:
• Copy the software update on the computer.
• Connect the computer with the light source via RS-232-cable.
• Switch on the computer and the floor stand.
• Start the update programme „FSUA_2-1x.exe“ on the computer.
• Follow the given instructions.

3.2 Configuration of the microsurgical operating system

The microscope, hand switches and connected foot switches may be configured using the

3.3 Adjustment of the brakes

1. Remove the covers

Use an allen key, key size 8 mm, to

re-adjust the torque of the brake.
The brake is preadjusted in such a
manner, that the force required to
rotate the microscope around the
indicated axis is:
3 to 5 N

5 to 7 N

(Forces measured at the microscope

mount when the articulated arm
forms a line with the carrying arm i.e.
the total arm is at its longest)

3.4 Potential failures

Failure Remedy
Mains switch is not lit after • Check the mains connection
activation • Check the fuses, exchange the defective ones (see page 17)
On the microscope:
• Take off the protection cap from the objective lens
• Check the light guide connection
• Check the position of the filter disk. Readjust its position
On the floor stand:
• Check whether the mains switch is lit, if not, see above
• Check the light guide connection
No illumination after switching on
• „Restart“ after 30 seconds
the system
• Interchange with the lamps, if required, exchange the
defective lamp (only FS 2-11)
• Switch on emergency lighting:
Illumination lights up:
Check the PCB halogen (see page 26) / PCB LED (see
page 26) and, if required, exchange it
Illumination does not light up: Check the mains connection
and the fuses and exchange the defective ones (see page 17)
• Check the position of the filter disk on the microscope
• Exchange the lamp
Illumination seems to be too dark
• Check the light guide and, if required, exchange it (see
page 22)
• Make sure that all actual ventilation slots are free
Illumination breaks down prior to
• Remove all fluff etc. from inside the housing
the expected life span / floor stand
electronics overheated • Check the fan (should always be active while illumination is
switched on)
• Remove all fluff etc. from inside the housing and try again
Fan is defective
• Exchange the fan
• Switch off emergency lighting (FS 2-11), restart the floor
stand (FS 2-15)
No brightness regulation achievable
• Check the PCB halogen (see page 26) / PCB LED (see
page 26) and, if required, exchange it
Foot switch does not react as • Check the foot switch connection
expected • Check programming of foot switch
Floor stand leaps up or down • Perform weight compensation
