Your Quick Start Guide
to help you stay connected.
Life’s full of possibilities when you’re connected to Vuma Fibre Reach.
Congratulations!
Your fibre installation is complete. Let the adventure begin. Your fibre box, also
called the Optical Network Terminal (ONT), has been installed in your home
and you are moments away from connecting to choice, and an online world of
possibilities. But first, here are a few tips to guide you on your fibre journey.
The difference between Vuma and Internet Service Providers
Vuma is an open access network provider. It provides the infrastructure used by
many competing Internet Service Providers (ISPs). An Internet Service Provider
is the company you pay to provide you with your internet access over the Vuma
Fibre Reach Fibre To The Home (FTTH) network. They essentially provide you with
connectivity to the internet and the endless possibilities that internet access offers.
Vuma Fibre Reach installs and maintains the high-speed, open access fibre
network in your area and provides you with a fibre connection point. Your Internet
Service Provider uses this connection point to provide you with internet access
through a Wi-Fi enabled ONT, which Vuma will provide and install.
You have many Internet Service Providers to choose from because our network is
open access.
Which package should I choose?
ISPs currently offer 2 types of products on the Vuma Fibre Reach network:
1. The 28-day package:
― gives you uncapped internet (unlimited data) with a download speed of
20Mbps and an upload speed of 10Mbps.
― expires after 28 days. If you want to access the internet again after 28
days, you’ll need to buy another 28 day package from your ISP. If you want
an uninterrupted internet experience, you can buy a few of these 28 day
packages which will be queued. As soon as one expires, the next one will
kick in.
2. The month-to-month package:
― gives you uncapped internet (unlimited data) with a download speed of
20Mbps and an upload speed of 10Mbps.
― does not expire until you tell your Internet Service Provider that you want to
cancel your internet service.
― allows you uninterrupted access to your internet service on a month-to-
month basis, without any hassle from your side.
NOTE: In order to make use of the uninterrupted package, your debit/credit card
details will need to be loaded on a system where a monthly debit amount will be
deducted from your account.
Troubleshooting tips
1. Understanding the lights on the white Huawei device
a. The power light
Should be on and stable.
Power light off: Ensure device is plugged in and switched on at the wall.
b. The PON light (Passive Optical Network)
Should be on and green. If it is off or red and flashing, there is an error with
your line. Contact your Internet Service Provider.
c. The LOS light (Loss of Signal)
Should be off. If it is on, there may be a fault with your fibre connection.
Contact your Internet Service Provider.
d. PON and LOS lights flashing (Faulty Device)
If the PON and LOS lights are both flashing, the device is faulty. Contact your
Internet Service Provider.
e. The LAN light
LAN light off: The device is not properly plugged into the ONT. Ensure cables
and connectors to the Wi-Fi enabled ONT and device are plugged in properly.
Ensure all devices are switched on.
Try different LAN cables if LAN light is off.
If LAN light is off, switch the ONT device off for 5 minutes and turn it back
on. If the light stays off, contact your Internet Service Provider.
f. The WLAN light
On - Wi-Fi is enable
Off - Wi-Fi is not enabled or the device has no power
Flashing - Data is being transmitted
If you experience an issue with your Wi-Fi, contact your Internet Service
Provider.
NOTE: If the LAN light stays off, please log a query with your ISP. You cannot use
a telephone cable. You will need to use an Ethernet, LAN or CAT6 cable.
Changing your Internet Service Provider or internet package
We’re all about freedom and choice. To cancel, or change your package, contact
your current Internet Service Provider directly. Once you’ve cancelled your
package, you can call your new chosen Internet Service Provider to place a new
order. Please take note of your Internet Service Provider’s Terms and Conditions
before making any changes.
Our safety tip
Stay safe while getting connected. Please don’t let anyone into your home
or property unless they have an appointment and you’re expecting a Vuma
employee or an accredited installer.
We will never send anyone to your property without an appointment. If there
is someone else at your home when you’re not there, tell them that you’re
expecting someone.
