Group wiki 1

In this wiki, you and your group members write a summary and reflection on the introduction
and chapter 1 of Siegel’s book1.

Instructions
1- Read the Introduction chapter, as well as chapter 1, from the book. Note that the book is
available through Seneca Libraries (link).

2- Click on “My Groups” on Blackboard’s left bar, to see and click on your group number. Then
click on “Group Wiki”.

3- Create a wiki page and name it wiki 1. Please create only one for the whole group- don’t
create multiple ones. Each member must contribute to this page, as I will see each
member’s contribution and will mark you accordingly.

4- As a group, add contents to the wiki to


 Summarize what you read. In your summary, include answers to the suggested
questions below.
 Include your opinion about the content
 Include additional content related to the topic. Please include the reference (book,
article, web links)

b. Explain the different components in the figure shown on page 34: Characteristics of an
individual, Predictive Model, and Predictive Score.

c. What are some examples of models used as predictive models?

d. Since finding rules or models to predict is not always easy or possible, how are
predictive models built automatically?

e. What is ‘backtesting’? Why and when is it used? What is a potential risk with this
method?

f. What was the ‘time leak’ that John Elder found in Delta Financial’s prediction engine?
