DRRR "One More Chance"

Popoy wants to build earthquake-resistant structures to protect people from harm. Earthquakes can cause infrastructure damage, injuries, and deaths through ground shaking, tsunamis, landslides, and liquefaction. Based on previous learning, earthquake-proof houses should use sturdy materials like wood, steel, and futuristic materials. They also require structural features like shear walls, cross braces, diaphragms, and moment frames to reinforce the structure and minimize earthquake damage.

ACTIVITY 2

“ONE
MORE
CHANCE”

Chrelle P. Tenebro
STEM 11.1
ACTIVITY 2
Popoy playing the role of an architect wanting to build earthquake-resistant structures. Answer the

following questions.

1.What do you think is the reason why Popoy thought of building earthquake-proof houses?

I think the reason why Popoy thought of building an earthquake-proof house is for it to be

less vulnerable to earthquakes. Also in constructing a structure or a building that is earthquake-

proof can manage to survive the sudden ground shaking that occurs during earthquakes, thereby

preventing possible hazards that will occur, structural damage and human deaths, injuries because

it is a built securely.

2. What are the possible hazards or dangers that can be caused by an earthquake?

The possible hazards or dangers that can be caused by an earthquake are damage to

infrastructures, physical injuries and death. Ground shaking, tsunamis, landslides, liquefaction,

subsidence are also part of the possible hazards.

3. Based from your previous learnings, what are the materials and structural features of an

earthquake-proof house?

Based on my understandings and knowledge in my previous learnings the materials and

structural features of an earthquake-proof house are wood, structural steel, and futuristic materials.

Also to reinforce the building’s structure, shear walls, cross braces, diaphragms and moment

resisting frames are needed. These materials are very important in constructing a building because

it will be a great help for us to minimize damages and injuries caused by an earthquake.
