Statement of Purpose

Raja Tayyab Shoukat graduated from the Institute of Space Technology in Pakistan with a degree in electrical engineering. During his studies, he became interested in machine learning through projects involving image processing and pattern recognition. His final year project used machine learning algorithms to automatically sort soccer ball patches by shape and detect cutting faults. He hopes to pursue a master's degree in machine learning at MBZUAI to further his understanding and apply it to automating industries like agriculture in Pakistan and other developing countries to increase production and reduce poverty.

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

My Physics teacher used to say, if Newton suddenly became alive from his grave and you show
him Smartphone, he would die again. The reason behind all this advancement is Artificial
Intelligence. I, Raja Tayyab Shoukat, am an Electrical graduate from highly developed, top
ranked and renowned university of Pakistan, Institute of Space Technology, Islamabad. Being
the student of Electrical Engineering, I came across many occasions, when I have to study and
learn different machine learning algorithms. My Final Year Project which, Automation of
Football Industry using Smart Sorting Machine, was also based upon Machine Learning
algorithms. In this project, we used different Machine Learning algorithms to sort different
patches in a Football. Mainly there are two types of patches in Football, pentagon and hexagon.
And also, here in Pakistan, manual cutting of patches caused different cutting faults. So, we
designed a system which recognized not only the shapes of patches and sort them as hexagon
and pentagon but also successfully detected different cutting faults in those patches. This whole
project was based upon image processing and machine learning. Also, my semester projects
always revolved around image processing and machine learning. Due to these experiences, I
develop serious likeness towards developing my career in Machine learning as Masters, from
the very first Artificial Intelligence University, MBZUAI. As the world is growing faster in
terms of technology and Machine learning is playing vital role in this cause, so, opting Machine
learning as a career might prove to be my ever-best decision of my life. Every process in
industries, nowadays, is shifting towards automation and machine learning along with deep
learning is playing important role in automating these processes. By using machine learning
techniques, we not only can make the industries smarter but also can increase their production
at a significant rate. After completing my Final year project successfully, I always thought
about creating different projects based on Deep learning but due to limited resources, I could
not accomplish my dreams. During my internship at PAC Kamra, I figured out, how efficient
and advanced the processes have become in Air jets also, all because of the advancement in
image processing and Artificial Intelligence. Though, it was just two weeks internship. But this
internship greatly influenced my ways of thinking and my future goals, which is only machine
learning. This internship and then my final year project greatly sparked my brain and I became
crazy in learning Machine learning and enrolled myself in different online courses to diversify
my concepts and to understand the limits of Artificial intelligence. And surprisingly, I found
out that there are no limits. You can create anything you want from Machine learning. My first
expectation after this course is to automate the agricultural field of my country and then other
under develop countries. Because automating this field will not only increase country’s assets
but also it will help in eradicating the poverty by producing enough agricultural crops in excess.
In achieving this goal, this degree will play a vital role.
