Laboratory Exercise
Technology in the Educational Industry
Objectives:

At the end of the exercise, the students should be able to:

 Analyze the impacts of technology to the educational industry.

Materials:

 One (1) personal computer with a pre-installed Microsoft Word and Google Chrome
 Fast Internet connection

Instructions:
1. Create a new document on Microsoft Word with the filename 06LAB_LastName_FirstName (ex.
06LAB_DelaCruz_Juan). This will serve as your answer sheet and will be collected by your instructor.
2. Launch Google Chrome and go to https://moodle.org/demo/ to access the product demo of Moodle. Select
Moodle Sandbox. See Figure 1 for reference.

3. A welcome note will be displayed on the new page. The login link can be found on the upper right corner of the
new page. Click the login link. Log on to Moodle Sandbox using the following details: (See Figure 2 for the
sample login page.)
 Username: student
 Password: sandbox

4. Explore the functionalities of Moodle Sandbox. Go through all the modules in the application. There are quick
tours within the application to help you out.
5. After exploring the functionalities of Moodle Sandbox Demo, answer the following with a minimum of five
(5) sentences. Place your answers in the answer sheet.
a. Define at least three (3) functionalities of the Moodle application for students and explain how these
would help students in learning.
b. Describe your experience navigating the application.
6. Go back to https://moodle.org/demo/ to access the other demo already populated with information. Select
Mount Orange School. See Figure 3 for reference.

7. A new Web page will be displayed. Under See Moodle in action, click Choose a role. You will be
redirected to a page where you can select the specific role you would like to experience. Select any two
(2) roles: Teacher, Student, Manager (Administrator), or Parent. See Figure 4 for reference.

8. After selecting a role, follow the login instructions that will be displayed on the new page. Explore your chosen
roles. You can only navigate one (1) role at a time. Do not forget to indicate the roles you selected in the answer
sheet.

9. After discovering the functionalities of the LMS for the two (2) roles that you have selected, answer the
following with a minimum of five (5) sentences. Place your answers in your answer sheet.
a. Define some functionalities from the first role that you have explored.
b. Describe your navigation experience with the second role that you have explored.
c. Compare the functionalities and navigation experience of the two (2) roles you have selected.
d. How can an IT application tool, specifically an LMS like Moodle, help the development of the
educational industry?
