PROCEDURE TEXT

1. Definition of Procedure Text

There are three definition about procedure text : (1)Texts that explain how something
works or how to use instruction / operation manuals e.g. how to use the video, the
computer, the tape recorder, the photocopier, the fax. (2) Texts that instruct how to do a
particular activity e.g. recipes, rules for games, science experiments, road safety rules.
(3) Texts that deal with human behavior, e.g how to live happily, how to succeed

2. Generic Structure of Procedure Text


# Goal : (e.g : How to make spaghetti)

# Material or Ingredient : (e.g : the material to cook omelette are egg, onion, vegetable
oil, etc. )

# Step : (e.g : first, wash the tomatoes, onion, …., second cut the onions becomes
slice. . . )

3. Purpose of Procedure Text


– To explain/tell (the reader) how to make/operate/do something through a sequence of
actions or steps.

– To explain steps/instruction to make/operate/do something

4. Language Feature of Procedure Text :


– Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the
last)

– Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the
onion. . ., wash the tomatoes. . . )

– Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for
example, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.

– Using action verbs, e.g : make, take, boil, cook

– Using Simple Present Tense

5. Examples of Procedure Text


How to Make Fluffy Pancake
Ingredients:

● 5 eggs
● 40 gram sugar
● 60 gram purpose flour
● 2 gram baking powder
● Salt
● 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
● Honey

Instructions:

1. First, separate the egg yolk and the white. Then beat the egg white until stiff.
2. In a separated bowl, mix the egg yolks with sugar until the sugar melts.
3. Next, add the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then stir until all the ingredients
mixed.
4. Slowly pour all the mixture ingredients into one bowl. Then add vanilla
extract and mix it.
5. Then heat a pan over a low-medium heat and coat it with butter. Use a 1/4
cup measure to scoop and drop the batter into the pan so that you get
evenly-sized pancakes.
6. Cook until the first side is golden brown, or until the top surface forms
bubbles.
7. Flip and repeat on the other side. Adjust heat accordingly.
8. Finally, serve the pancake while it is still warm with honey. You can add
some fruits like grapes or strawberry to make it more delicious.

How To Make Egg and Lemon Soup

Materials:

3 pints chicken stock

Juice of 2 Lemons

3 oz rice
salt and pepper

4 eggs, well beaten

Steps:

Put stock into a pan and heat until boiling.

Add rice and cook on low heat for fifteen minutes.

Mix together egg and lemon juice.

Add three tablespoons of stock to the mixture and stir.

Stir this mixture into the remaining stock in pan.

Add a little of salt and pepper.

Cook gently for three minutes.

HOW TO MAKE A PENCIL BOX


What you need:
1. An empty plastic bottle of water
2. A sharp cutter
3. A piece of white of colorful paper
4. Some glue
5. Some paint
Steps:
1. Wash the plastic bottle and make sure it has been clean when you use it
2. Cut the bottle into two halves
3. Wrap the bottle with a piece of colorful paper
4. If you use white paper, use a paint to color it
5. Now, your pencil box is ready to use
