Procedure :
Welcoming learners
Warm up ( make a revision for the Present Simple and the Past Simple, and the Past continuous)
Revising the differences between the long action and the short action in the past, and the tenses used in
each case.
PAIR WORK: Inviting learners to do the activity below ( one paper for 02 learners)
Task 01: Put the verbs between brackets in the correct form ( Past Simple or the Past Continuous)
1-We (to watch) TV when we (to hear) a loud noise.
2-Julie ( to sit) in the garden when Laurence (to arrive).
3-They (to have) dinner when the police (to come)
4-He ( to sleep) when the doorbell (to ring)
5-The snow (to fall) while the children (to sing) in front of the piano.
6-When I (to call) Julie, she ( to work)
7-David ( not to sleep) when I (to arrive)
8-When I (to finish) my homework, My mother (to cook) dinner.
9-As I (to drive) to work, a car ( to crash) in front of me.
10-When she (to arrive) to Oran, the sun (to shine)

Correction of the task on the whiteboard and asking learners to come and do a whole sentence (as a self
assessment for them)
Task 01: Write down the second activity in negative form as shown in the example.
Important Remark: Learners should be asked to practise the negative Past Simple on REGULAR
verbs only, to avoid being confused with the infinitive for IRREGULAR verbs).
