Creating A Lathe Tool Library 1
Objectives:
✓The Student will learn how to create a new tool and to save it in a library.
MACHINE
Select the Default.
Select the plus sign in front of Properties in the Toolpaths Manager to expand the Toolpaths Group Properties.
Left click on Files to open the Machine Group Properties dialog box.
Select the OK button to exit the General Turning / Boring Inserts dialog box.
The inserts parameters are as shown in the following picture.
Select the Holders tab and click on the Get Holder button.
Select the "NVLCR-163D" holder.
Select the OK button to exit the General Turning Holders dialog box.
The holder’s parameters are shown below.
Select Setup Tool.
Make the changes as shown and click OK to return back to the Define Tool dialog box.
NOTE: Setup Tool will establish the mounting position, tool angle, spindle rotation, turret, active spindle and
home position.
NOTE: Tool Clearance will allow you to view and edit the tool’s end and side clearance angles as well as the
tool’s width and height.
Click on the Select All button.
NOTE: Make sure that you save the tool to your own library to separate it from Mastercam’s Library. When
prompted, save it with your library name.
Objectives:
✓To edit an existing grooving tool, "OD GROOVING W0.375 CENTER", and change it
to an "OD Cutoff RH".

To edit an existing grooving tool, "OD GROOVING W0.375 CENTER", and change it to an "OD Cutoff RH".
MACHINE
From the Machine Type group, select the drop down arrow below Lathe.
Select the Default.
Select the plus sign in front of Properties in the Toolpaths Manager to expand the Toolpaths Group Properties.
Left click on Files to open the Machine Group Properties dialog box.
Select the Save to Library button to save the new tool in the library.
NOTE: Make sure that you save the tool to your own library to separate it from Mastercam’s Library. When
prompted, save it with your library name.
Select the OK button twice to exit the Tool Manager dialog box.
Select the OK button to exit the Machine Group Properties dialog box.
