Welcome to ME Laboratory 2 course. This course will be the second laboratory course which deals
with study and tests of mechanical engineering equipment and machineries. This material is your guide
in successfully navigating and finishing this course. Read this material before starting any lesson in this
course because it outlines all information and requirements that you need to complete the course.
1. Course Introduction
ME 417 is a 2 unit laboratory course for fourth year BS Mechanical Engineering (BSME) students.
The course deals with the study and test of mechanical engineering equipment and machineries such
as steam generator, steam turbine, heat exchangers, internal & external combustion engines, pumps,
fans, blowers and compressors.

Course Prerequisite: ME 326 (ME Laboratory 1), Fluid Machinery, Heat Transfer
Number of Credits: 2 Units Laboratory
Course Placement: 4th Year, First Semester

4. Mode of Delivery
For this semester, the university identified three (3) types of learners, namely: students with
A. good internet access (able to participate in synchronous activity);
B. poor to fair internet access (able to participate in asynchronous activities only); and
C. no internet connection.
Hence, the table below shows the mode of deliveries for each type of learners:

Week 2 Physical Study of Steam 1. Read the materials, view the videos and accomplish assigned
Aug. 16 – 20 Generating Unit (L1) activity.
Week 3 Test of Centrifugal Fan and 1. Submit/Upload output for lesson 1.
Aug. 23 – 27 Rotary Blower (L2) 2. Read the materials, view the videos and accomplish assigned
activity.
Week 4 Test of Air Compressor 1. Submit/Upload output for lesson 2.
Aug. 31–Sept. 3 (L3) 2. Read the materials, view the videos and accomplish assigned
activity.
Week 5 Measurement of Steam 1. Submit/Upload output for lesson 3.
Sept. 6 – 10 Quality (L4) 2. Read the materials, view the videos and accomplish assigned
activity.
Week 6 Heat Loss Calculation 1. Submit/Upload output for lesson 4.
Sept. 13 – 17 through Bare and Lagged 2. Read the materials, view the videos and accomplish assigned
Pipes (L5) activity.
7. Grading System
As indicated in the course syllabus, your course performance will be evaluated based on the
following criteria:

Assigned Tasks 35% FG = 1/3 (Midterm) + 2/3 (Tent. Final)
Major Examinations 65%
8. Learning Resources
To aid your learning, resources will be provided along the duration of the course it may be
available on the course site. However, for those with poor internet connection may schedule time to
connect to university Wi-Fi and download all term materials. The learning resources are:

Instructional materials will be provided and is uploaded in the course site for each topic.
You are required to read all the instructional materials. You will also find an activity at the end
of each topic which you need to accomplish and submit on the indicated date.
2. Video Lectures/Resources
Video lectures/resources are additional resources to help you better understand the
topic. You are not required to watch the videos; however, it will be a great resource should you
access it.
