Lab Redox Titration
Lab Redox Titration
Apparatus :
solution
Method: Pipette 25 ml freshly prepared iron(II) salt solution into a conical flask.
Using a filter funnel, fill a 50ml burette with manganate solution, ensuring that there are
no air pockets at the teat. Remove filter funnel after filling . the burette.
Place the conical flask on a white tile under the burette and titrate using the acid until
the indicator changes to a palest pink colour
Repeat the first three parts of the method to obtain two best results.

Calculation
Questions :
1. Calculate the average volume of manganate that completely neutralized the iron (II) salt.
2. From the molarity of the iron (II) salt given, calculate the # of moles in the sample used.
3. Given the equation below, calculate the number of moles of manganate used for the oxidation reaction.
MnO4 – (aq) + 5Fe2+ (aq) + 8H+ (aq) → Mn 2+ (aq) + 5Fe3+ (aq) +4H2O (l)
Discussion : Highlight the use of redox reactions in the body, environment and industry and
discuss the implications for health and manufacture. Look at possible errors
