Experiment No. 2 or Gates & and Gates

The document describes an experiment involving OR gates and AND gates. The experiment has 5 procedures: 1) test a single-input OR gate, 2) test a 2-input OR gate, 3) construct a 3-input OR gate from 2-input gates, 4) test a single-input AND gate, and 5) test a 2-input AND gate. The procedures involve building the gate circuits on a breadboard, applying different input combinations, and recording the output results in truth tables.

Experiment No. 2
OR GATES & AND GATES

I. OBJECTIVES:

1. To verify experimentally the proper operations of an OR gate.

2. To verify experimentally the proper operations of an AND gate.

II. MATERIALS:

1 - Quad 2-input OR gate (74LS32)

1 - Triple 3-input AND gate (74LS11)
1 - VOM
1 - Power Supply (5-volts dc)
LED’s
Breadboard
Connecting wires

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Examine the 74LS32 data sheet, and connect one OR gate by wiring all inputs
together, and determine the gate output for each input shown in Figure 2-1.

2. Connect a 2-input OR gate, and determine the gate output for each input
shown in Figure 2-2.

3. A 3-input OR gate can be constructed from two 2-input OR gates as shown

in Figure 2-3. Connect two OR gates as shown in Figure 2-3, and verify the
proper operation by applying the input combinations shown and record the
results.

4. Examine the 74LS11 data sheet, and connect one AND gate
wiring all inputs together, and determine the gate output for each input
shown in Figure 2-4.

5. Record the gate output for each input combination shown in the following
tables. (Note that a 3-input AND gate will function as a 2- input AND gate
by connecting two inputs together and treating them as a single input).
