Objective 1
Define the term ‘output’ and ‘output device’.
Students will be asked to give their opinion for the terms they should define. After students
share their definitions the teacher will display a formal definition for both terms to
students.
Terms Definition
Output An output is data that a computer sends. Computers only work with
digital information. Any input that a computer receives must be
digitised. Often data has to be converted back to an analogue format
when it's output, for example the sound from a computer's speakers.
Output device An output device allows data to be transmitted by the computer in a
human-friendly form, for example, sound being played through a
speaker. Monitor - The main output device of a computer. It forms
images by converting electrical energy into light in the form of tiny
dots on the screen called pixels.
Objective 2
Distinguish between soft copy and hard copy; human readable and machine readable devices.
Students will be told that an output device can produce one of two types of output, they will
be instructed to unscramble the words below to figure out the two types of output.
Yocprdha - hardcopy
Yocpftso - Softcopy
After solving the puzzle students will be asked to state what they believe each type of
output are. Students are teacher will discuss the types of output and examples of each type.
Students will be shown diagrams displaying each type of output and will decide the types
based on the activity in the diagram.
Objective 3
Name and describe some characteristics and uses of different output devices.
Students will complete a word search puzzle for the types of output devices.
After completing the puzzle students will know the names of several output devices and
will be given/chose a device to research and present their findings to the class.
Students will research the following:
Description of the device
Characteristics of the device
The type of output it produces.
