Module Week 7: The Position Paper (definition, nature, role, and its goal)

Name: Rickee Rose Y. De Jesus Strand/Section: ABM 12- A

I. Direction. Write the correct answer in the provided space. You should analyze the question
and give your answer.

1. It is the other term for position paper. Argumentative Paper and Manifesto.

2. Its goal is to convince the reader of the acceptability of the writer’s position and it does so
by: Presenting rational support to a writer’s position, through the use of evidence,
presenting counter-evidence to or flaws in the arguments of the opposing position, and
using emotional appeals.

3. What are the two goals of position paper? Helps others to become more aware of certain
problems in society and possibly become more involved in finding solution for it.

4. Thesis is a statement that expresses your stand or position on an issue. It is also known as

your claim in statement.

5. Issue is an idea or question over which people are divided; it’s also called a controversy.

II. Direction. The issue is already given. You must give your thesis/claim, reason, and support.

DEBATABLE QUESTION:

Do you think it’s acceptable that DENR allows aged 12-17 years old with without fully
vaccinated enter Dolomite Beach?

Thesis:

I disagree, or at the very least, I do not believe it is acceptable in the current situation. It's a
little concerning that minors are allowed to go without vaccination in areas where they are at
high risk of covid-19 infection.

Reason:

Children aged 12 to 17 are at a significant risk of contracting covid-19, and there is no vaccine
available to protect them. DENR's approach has the potential to worsen and grow the covid-19.
And if this is heard by a large number of minors, it is obvious that many of them will visit the
Dolomite beach because it is open to them. It may result in overcrowding at Dolomite Beach,
where we don't know if all of the guests are safe to enter.

Support:

According to cdc.gov COVID, 19 vaccinations are efficient and can lower the risk of contracting
and spreading the COVID-19 virus.

2. DEBATABLE QUESTION

Some people believe that social media sites suggest a substitute for face-to-face
communication. Do you agree with this statement? Give specific reasons for your opinion.

Thesis:

I agree since social media is such a flexible and adaptable medium. It's a great substitute for
face-to-face communication in the height of a pandemic, and it's highly recommended.

Reason:

We all know that social media can provide you with anything you require; everything you
demand and desire may be found on social media sites. It is a viable alternative to face-to-face
communication, regardless of distance.

Support:

According to webfx.com, because social media allows you to reach, nurture, and engage with
your target audience regardless of their location, it is significant.
