HPC190-Spindle Platform
With the new platform spindle with its diameter of 190 mm, Step-Tec has managed to integrate the
needs of modern machine tools concerning installation length, lightweight construction and energy
efficiency along with a package of options undoubtedly unique in the market.
The completely new “state of the art“ spindle replaces the construction sizes HM170, HVC212 and
HVC230 and closes the gap between the established sizes of 150 and 240 mm.
Technical data:
Options:
The motor spindle designed with an induction motor (also available with synchronous motor) and
with HSK-A63 interface (HSK-A80, ISO 40 or Capto C6 as alternatives) can play fully on its
strengths in tool, mold making and production applications with a power output of 42 kW (S6). In
addition, one of three bearing lubricating system, DOL (Direct Oil Lubrication) to 20,000 rpm, the
CGL (Continuous Grease Lubrication) to 18,000 rpm and the LGL (Lifetime Grease Lubrication) to
12,000 rpm can be chosen from, depending on the application.
It was not only the extensive experience of Step-Tec that made the development of the new platform
spindle; the knowledge gained from an intensive exchange of experiences with machine tool
manufacturer and operators as well as the specifications emerging from the new EUP directive that
call for conserving energy in particular that of not renewable sources.
With greater power density, the consumption of compressed air, currently the most expensive form
of energy in machine tools could be reduced compared to comparable spindles. A benefit that
becomes apparent in particular with the CGL and LGL bearing lubricating systems.
The area of active stator cooling has been expanded further towards the very front of the spindle
nose based on the successful Opticool spindle principle.
This additional cooling of the front bearings right next to the tool interface has the effect of an
additional cooling barrier against heat transfer. This reduces thermal expansion of the spindle nose
and tool, which in turn has a positive effect on the surface finish and precision of the manufactured
parts.
A special feature of this new spindle is its sleeve made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic that
reduces heat transfer to the machine’s spindle support to a minimum. This uniform polar
temperature spread in the spindle support brings down the thermal growth and the thermal
deformation to nearly zero.
With this new platform spindle HPC 190, all options the market calls for today are available. The
integration of extensive sensorics along with the Spindle Diagnostic Module offers full digital access
for the machine tool operator to optimize the machining process and to diagnose the spindle status.
The complete sensoric package is known as the ”inteliSTEP“ system.
The unique feature to order this motor spindle with a Spindle Shaft Interlock (SSL) system that
hydraulically locks the shaft by means of mechanical gear tooth looking capable of holding up to 500
Nm. This feature widens the field of applications to use this motor spindle not only for milling but for
locking the shaft equipped with a tool for turning operations, e.g. in Millturn machines.
As a standard, feeding tool coolant lube or dry air to cool the tool and the work piece is possible via
the optional rotary union. High pressure liquid cooling as well as low pressure dry air cooling (air in
rotation) can be processed with modern rotary unions up the any maximum speed.
Summary:
The HPC 190 platform spindle offers machine tool operators the highest investment value,
interesting unique features and superior cost efficiency for machine tools.
