Electronics-1 Lab 3, FA20-BEE-3C-146

This document summarizes an electronics lab experiment on half wave and full wave rectifiers with capacitor filters. The lab used equipment like a function generator, oscilloscope, and circuit board to build half wave and full wave rectifier circuits using diodes, resistors, and capacitors. Values for the resistors and capacitors were calculated, and voltage and current outputs were measured. Design problems were also completed to calculate DC voltages for single diode half wave and four diode full wave rectifiers connected to transformer secondaries.

Section II-Design Problems

• Design and Calculate the Vdc voltage for a single-diode half-wave rectifier that has an input
voltage of 120 volts ac rms (including the 0.7 volt drop for the diode).
(Without Capacitor)
(With Capacitor)
• Design and Calculate the Vdc for a four-diode full-wave rectifier that is connected to the
secondary of a transformer that provides 120 volts ac rms. (Remember to include the 1.4 volt
drop through the diodes.)

Without Capacitor:
With Capacitor:
Critical Analysis / Conclusion: I utilized a function generator to generate AC voltage signals in
this lab. I next built half-wave and full-wave rectifiers without a capacitor and used an
oscilloscope to observe the half- and full-wave converted dc signals after rectification.
Eventually, I added a capacitor to both rectifiers and discovered that the pulsating dc signal is
converted to practically pure dc due to the presence of the capacitor in both rectifiers. Finally, I
calculated the ripple voltage and evaluated the waveform created by the capacitor in both
rectifiers.
