1. Plague is a disease carried by animals, primarily by rodents, and by people.

2. It was widespread in Europe, where in the 1300s, 25 million people died and raging

epidemics spread as late as the latter part of the seventeenth century.

epidemic on ships from one port to another, rodent extermination put an end to the

devastating plagues in the world.
