Exercise 1
Choose the best answer by choosing A, B, C or D!

1. Thalita : Titi, … You’ve delivered it amazingly in that debate contest.


Titi : I must thank you, Miss Thalita. I won’t be like this if you don’t train me well.

Complete the dialog below using the expressions of congratulations!

(Donny has passed his exams with satisfying grades and got the best rank at his school.)
Bobby : Hi, Don. I heard that you got the best grades in this year's exams, didn't you?
Donny : Yes, that's right.
Bobby : (1) wow, congratulations Don.
Donny : Thank you, Bob.
Donny's father : I know (2) I must congratulate you, Don. I'm (3) proud.
Donny's mother : I'm (4) proud too, my son.
Donny : (5) Thank you , Dad, Mom. I’m proud to make you happy.

Exercise 3
Work in a group of two (Note: no. 1&2, 3&4, 5&6, etc.) Make a dialogue based on these
situations below. Choose one of them. The dialog at least consists of 10 sentences. Use the
expressions of congratulations!

Your partner becomes the best student at school.

Safira : Hello Laila, good morning, how are you?


Laila : Hi Safira, good morning too, I'm fine, how about you?
Safira : That's fine, btw you were chosen as the best student in school, is that right?
Laila : Yes right
Safira : Wow, congrats, you are great
Laila : Thank you Safira, do you know from whom?
Safira : From the next class, how do you feel?
Laila : I'm very happy, btw where are you going?
Safira : I`m going to the school canteen, you?
Laila : I want to go to the library
Safira : Okay, see you
Laila : See you too

Exercise 4
Complete the dialog below using the expressions of giving compliments given.

Dewi : Tomi. (1) You look great today . I love your new hair style.

Tomi : Yes, I’ve got it. You know what? I have passed for the final test. I’m so happy right
now.
Dewi : (2) It’s my pleasure . Congratulations! How’s the score?
Tomi : Thank God. I got the highest score for the test.
Dewi : Wow, that’s amazing. (3) I know you are very smart, Tomi. Well done!
Tomi : Thanks for your compliment, Dewi. (4) That’s great .
Dewi : Never mind Tomi. (5) You are so kind.

Exercise 5
Make a short dialogue to give a compliment based on the situations given. Choose one of them and
your dialog must consist of at least 10 sentences. Don't forget to use the expressions about giving
compliments that you have learnt.
Your best friend is good at playing chess.

Safira : Hello friends, good afternoon, how are you?


Ananda : Hi Safira, good afternoon too, I'm fine, how about you?
Safira : Fine, what are you guys doing?
Bagas : We are playing chess, where are you going?
Safira : Very amazing, I just walked around the complex in the afternoon
Ananda : Thank you, would you like to try playing chess?
Sapphire : No, thank you. I can't play chess
Ananda : No problem, we will help you little by little
Sapphire : Okay
(after a while)
Bagas : Wow you are great, now you can play chess
Safira : thank you Ananda and Bagas, btw it's getting dark, I'm going home first, see you
tomorrow
Ananda & Bagas: same with Safira, nice to play with you, see you soon
