 Faculty  of  Aeronautics  and  Astronautics

Fall  2021      UCK  351E  Aerodynamics    Homework  #2
Due  to  :  November    13th  ,  2021  at  20:00

Please  use  your  ITU  student  ID  numbers  to  determine  a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h,i  parameters.
Your  number  is  [abcdefghi].

Question  1:    A  scalar  function  𝑓  is  given  in  a  velocity  field  𝑉  where
(2 + 𝑑)𝑦
𝑓 = 1 + 𝑒 𝑥!𝑧 −
𝑧
1 + 𝑐 𝑧!
𝑉 = (3 + 𝑎)𝑥𝑦𝚤 + (2 + 𝑏)𝑦 ! 𝑧𝚥 − 𝑘
𝑥
!"
Then  ,  calculate:    a)  ∇𝑓      b)  div  𝑉 ,      c)curl  𝑉        d) (Substantial  Derivative)
!"

Question   2:     Velocity   profiles   at   upstream   and   downstream   ends   of   a   control   volume

!"
shown   below   are   measured   as   𝑢! = 𝑈!   and   𝑢! = 𝑈! 1 − (0.5 + 𝑒/100)𝑐𝑜𝑠
!!!

respectively.   The   height   of   the   control   volume   at   downstream,   𝐻!   is   equal   to   0.022*c,

where  c  is  the  chord  length  of  the  airfoil  placed  in  the  control  volume.  It  is  known  that
the   flow   is   incompressible,   two   dimensional,   and   steady.   The   surfaces   3   and   4   are
streamlines  of  the  flow  around  the  airfoil.  The  pressure,  𝑃!  is  constant  over  the  entire
surface   of   the   control   volume.   Using   the   integral   form   of   the   continuity   and
momentum  equation,  calculate
a) the  height  of  the  upstream  station,  2𝐻!  and
b) the  drag  coefficient  of  the  airfoil.

Question  3:    The  velocity  field  of  a  certain  flow      𝑉 = 𝑢𝚤 + 𝑣𝚥 + 𝑤𝑘  is  given  by
u = (2 + h)xy 2 + (2 + h)xz 2 ,           v = x y ,         w = x 2 z

Consider   the   fluid   region   inside   a   spherical   volume   x 2 + y 2 + z 2 = m 2   where   m   is   a

constant.    Verify  the  validity  of  divergence  theorem

𝑉 . 𝑑𝑆 = ∇. 𝑉 𝑑𝜈

by  integrating  over  the  sphere.
