The candidates are advised to read information brochure carefully and visit our website

For On-campus physical reporting a candidate has to register with a fee of
o ` 24,238/- for M.Tech. (Full-time)

o ` 8,750/- for Master of Social Work
o ` 8,600/- for Ph.D. (Full-time: Institute Research Scholar)

In case of any legal dispute the jurisdiction will be limited to Allahabad courts only (Lower, District and High Court) and
will not be subject to the jurisdiction of any other courts outside Allahabad.
As it is evident that the attempts have been made to make it more convenient for the students and for that a lot of
additional
MNNIT, Allahabad efforts are involved. Kind cooperation from all corners is solicited. -2-
1. PROGRAMMES OFFERED
The Institute admits more than 800 students to undergraduate programmes and 500 students to postgraduate programmes
every year. Students from other countries such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Mauritius, Bahrain, Malaysia, Iran,
Yemen, Iraq, Bhutan, Syria, Palestine, Mongolia, Ireland, Indonesia and Thailand also join MNNIT for these programmes.

1.3. Ph. D. programmes

All the departments offer full time and part time doctoral programmes under following categories. The category code is
also given in the table below:

1.3.1 Full-time research students

i. Institute research scholar (stipendiary) (Category Code - 11):


Full-time Stipendiary research scholars are eligible for financial assistance in the form of teaching or research
assistantships (referred to as Institute Assistantships). The Assistantship shall be awarded to Ph.D. students on a
semester-to-semester basis for a period of up to six semesters and is extendable by two semesters on the
recommendation of DPGC and SPGC. Such students are expected to devote at least eight hours per week
towards job(s) assigned to them by the department, which may include class work, evaluation of answer books or
any other job as assigned by the Department/Institute. The renewal of assistantship is dependent on the
satisfactory student’s academic performance and discharge of duties as assigned to him/her by the department.
A student on teaching/research assistantship is also reimbursed a contingency expense as per the approved
terms and procedures to be notified from time to time by the Institute. The reimbursement is done twice annually
during the period of assistantship.

Wherever the eligibility qualification is Master’s degree in Science or Commerce or Economics or English
or any subject of Humanities or Life Sciences or Management, NET qualification is must for getting
Institute Fellowship as per letter F.No. 25-2/2010-TS.II, dated 30.09.2010 and subsequent modifications
which may be issued by MHRD from time to time.

ii. Sponsored candidates (Category Code - 12):


QIP and Sponsored full time students usually receive financial support from Govt./Semi Govt.
schemes/Organisations such as CSIR, AICTE, UGC, DAE, DST, DBT, NBHM, etc. and recognized R&D
organization for doing research work in the Institute. Candidates in service are to be released from the
organisation for full time research work at the Institute and must furnish a sponsorship certificate from the
employer. They shall not receive any financial support from the Institute in any form.

iii. Self financed (Indian/Foreign/Study Leave) candidates (Category Code - 13):


a. Indian: Such category of students are admitted along with the regular research students through the
common admission procedure. They do not get financial support in any form from the Institute. These
candidates shall be available full time in the Institute and may be using the facilities in the department as and
when allowed.

b. Foreign: These students are admitted through Embassy of their countries after getting approval from the
Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Human Resource and
Development, Government of India.

c. Study leave: This category refers to the students who are not sponsored but released from Government
Departments or educational Institutions on study leave or extraordinary leave for a period not less than the
minimum specified period for doing research work at the Institute. However, a No Objection Certificate from
employer should be produced at the time of joining.

iv. Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and other agencies (foreign nationals) (Category Code - 11):
These students are sponsored by their Governments and awarded scholarship by Govt. of India, ICCR and other
such agencies/organisation. They should apply for admission through Indian Embassy in their country.

1.3.2 Part-time research student
All the candidates admitted under this Category must fulfill one semester residential requirement at the Institute
preferably for course work.

i. Institute Faculty/Staff and Project staff of MNNIT Allahabad (Category Code - 21):
This category refers to the students who are employees of the Institute and are admitted to the Ph.D. programme.

Project staff are those candidates who are working on the various projects undertaken by the Institute and are
admitted to the Ph.D. Programme.

ii. Sponsored candidates (Category Code - 22):


a. Any candidate admitted under this category will be at par with Full-time Sponsored candidates for the
payment of fees.
b. These candidates must fulfill one semester of residential requirement at the Institute. These candidates will
have one supervisor from the Institute (Internal) and the other from their parent organization (External).
While the requirement of Institute supervisor is a must, the external supervisor is optional depending on
the availability.
Those candidates who are from such organisations/institutes where adequate laboratory facilities are not
available (as assessed by the supervisor at MNNIT Allahabad), are required to spend a minimum of 60 days at
MNNIT Allahabad, for completing research/laboratory work during the entire programme. These 60 days are
additional to the residential requirement of one semester.

iii. Self-financed candidates (Category Code - 23):


Candidates admitted under this category will be at par with Full-time Self-financed candidate for the payment
of fees. However, for foreign candidates except the change in the tuition fee other components of the fee
structure will be applicable. The candidates of this category will be governed by the Clause 2. ii. (b) for
Sponsored candidates.

iv. Candidates registered under collaborative research programme between MNNIT and other University, R
& D organization in India or abroad (Category Code - 23):
Candidates working in approved Indian/ Foreign educational institutes or recognized R&D organizations, which
are equipped with the necessary research and library facilities, may be considered for admission to the Ph.D.
programme in engineering and management. The educational institutes located in India must be approved by
AICTE. The students of this category will be governed by the Clause 2. ii. (b) for Sponsored candidates.

2. Eligibility for Admission


(i) The eligibility conditions given below are the absolute minimum. Departments may prescribe any other
requirements over and above the absolute minimum, subject to the approval of the SPGC.
(ii) The “specified minimum” marks/CPI (Cumulative Performance Index), referred to in subsequent sections, implies
a minimum of 60% aggregate marks or equivalent CPI for M.Tech. and Ph.D. at qualifying examination. For SC/ST
candidates eligibility in specified minimum marks is relaxed to 55% or equivalent.
(iii) Reservation: For M.Tech. programmes presently 27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates, 15% seats are
reserved for the Scheduled Castes candidates and 7.5% seats are reserved for the Scheduled Tribes candidates.
For persons with physical disability (PD) 3% seats are reserved as prescribed by Government of India.

2.1 M.Tech.
The applicant must have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Master’s degree in appropriate discipline with
marks/CPI not below the specified minimum. The admission to M.Tech. programme will be based on the
Percentile/Score secured by the candidate at the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). (Eligibility
requirement for various programmes and number of seats are given subsequently.)

2.2 Ph.D. in Engineering


The applicant must have Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent CPI.
For SC/ST candidates eligibility in specified minimum marks is relaxed to 55% or equivalent.
OR
Applicants with Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering with minimum 75% or equivalent CPI (70% marks or equivalent for
SC/ST candidates) shall only be considered for admission.
OR
Applicants with Master’s degree in Applied Sciences or any appropriate discipline with First Class with
NET/UGC/CSIR/GATE or any other equivalent qualifying score shall be considered for admission. However in case of
exceptionally qualified candidate the requirement of NET/UGC/CSIR etc may be waived off, but such candidates will
not be entitled for fellowship.

2.3 Ph.D. in Management
Applicants must have Master’s Degree in Management/Technology/Engineering/Economics/Commerce/Science/
Computer Applications/Social Science with a minimum of 60% marks or equivalent. For SC/ST candidates eligibility in
specified minimum marks is relaxed to 55% or equivalent.
OR
Applicants with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a minimum of 75% marks or equivalent CPI (70% or equivalent
for SC/ST candidates) shall only be considered for admission.
2.4 Ph.D. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS)
Applicants must have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject with a minimum of 60% Marks or equivalent. For SC/ST
candidates eligibility in specified minimum marks is relaxed to 55%.
OR
Applicants with Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or in an allied field of HSS with marks not below 75% or equivalent
(70% marks or equivalent for SC/ST candidates).
2.5 Ph.D. in GIS Cell
M. Tech. or equivalent in GIS & Remote Sensing/Civil Engineering/Comp. Sc.& Engineering/Information Technology/
Agricultural Engineering/Mining Engineering or M.Sc. degree in GIS & Remote Sensing/Applied Geology/Geophysics/
Geography/Environmental Science/Computer Science or degree in Master of Computer Application. For SC/ST
candidates eligibility in specified minimum marks is relaxed to 55%.
Wherever the eligibility qualification is Master’s degree in Science or Commerce or Economics or English or
any subject of Humanities or Life Sciences or Management, NET qualification is must for getting Institute

3.5 Sponsored Candidates
The institute may also admit sponsored candidates to full time M.Tech. Programmes. Following guidelines will be
followed for admission to this category:
(i) The candidates who posses Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology/Pharmacy/Architecture/Planning or
equivalent from AICTE approved institutions with at least 60% Marks or equivalent CPI (55% or equivalent for

to receive scholarship, even if they are admitted based on GATE Score.
(ii) The candidates must have a minimum of two Years of Full-Time work experience as on the date of registration
in a registered firm/company/industry/educational and research institution/any government department or
government autonomous organizations in the relevant field in which admission is being sought. A proof in this
respect must be submitted along with the application form.
(iii) The mode of selection shall be decided by individual departments.
(iv) A letter from the employer must be furnished at the time of test / interview stating that the candidate is being
sponsored to get admission. The employer should also indicate that the candidates will not be withdrawn
midway till the completion of the course. In case a candidate fails to produce the sponsorship letter he/she shall
not be interviewed.
4. Eligibility requirement and number of available seats in M.Tech. Part-Time (Evening Classes) programmes
Following departments offer Part-time M.Tech. programmes as per the details given below. These Part-time
programmes are run under the School of Non-formal and Continuing Education (SNFCE). These programmes are
of 03 years duration out of which 02 years are scheduled for completion of course work and one year for
Thesis/Dissertation/Projects. These courses are offered to working professionals who are working in and around
Allahabad City. Candidates with minimum 02 years of working experience at the time of registration are eligible for
admission.
All academic requirement for admission and graduation will be same as that of regular full-time M.Tech.

Self Financed
Self financed Candidates do not get any stipend, however all other conditions related with admission & academic
performance requirements will remain same as that for a stipendiary candidate. Such candidates are not eligible for
hostel accommodation in the campus.

6. How to apply

(i) All the candidates are required to submit their application form through our on-line application system using our
portal www.academics.mnnit.ac.in/admission only.
“No other means of application form shall be accepted”
Before you start for registration make sure that you have soft copy of passport size photograph in JPEG (256 kb)
format and your scanned signature in JPEG format.
Applicants may register on to the portal www.academics.mnnit.ac.in/admission using new user Select the
programme to which you want to apply and complete the followings:
a) Personal details
b) Academic details
After completing above mentioned two steps, system will provide you your username and password. Please keep
this information confidential and note this information as this will be required for subsequent steps.
After using proceed further button you will be reaching on main page again. Use the username and password to
login in the system.
(ii) Challan printing and payment,
Print the copy of Challan, there will be three counterfoils. The foils are:
o Collection Branch Copy ( to be retained by the Collecting Branch after depositing the amount)
o Institute copy (to be duly signed and stamped by the Collecting Branch and to be sent alongwith application
form to the respective department (s) / Cell / Center / School of the Institute.)
o Student Copy (to be duly signed and stamped by the Collecting Branch and kept by the student for any
future reference).
On paying the requisite amount at the branch, the cashier will return two counterfoils with the journal no. written on
them. Make sure that they are written clearly and legibly. The Journal No. is to be filled in the on-line application,
which will permit you after verification by the software to fill your options.

Mode of payment

A candidate applying for more than one programme in different departments is required to pay ` 500/- for each
programme. Application fee must be paid by electronic transfer for the requisite amount to the MNNIT Fee Account
(Current A/c No: 30981350206) operating at State Bank of India, Allahabad. This payment can be made
through:
- Cash: The amount may be deposited in cash at any SBI Branch all over India through their Power Jyoti
Scheme. Subsidiary Banks of State Bank like (State Bank of Hyderabad, State Bank of Patiala etc) will
not be able to provide this facility.

(iii) Entry of Journal Number.


Correctly enter the Journal number, date of transaction & branch code and submit the details. After 12
hours your payment will be received and confirmation mail will be sent on your email.

(iv) Choice filling for M.Tech. (Full-time) programme:


After receiving your payment status “fill choices” button will be activated and you can arrange the available
branches in order of your choices. Drag choices to the preferred position and arrange them according to your
choice.
Once the choices are locked you will not be able to change them, so be careful in your choice
selection.

(v) Upload Photograph and Signature:


Upload your recent photograph in JPEG (256 kb) format and your scanned signature in JPEG format also.

(vi) Print the completed form.


Duly completed and signed forms alongwith copy of GATE score card (if applicable) and proof of qualifying
examination must be send by post so as to reach the respective department (s) / Cell / Center / School of the
Institute on or before 27.05.2011.

7. Admission Criteria

(i) M.Tech. Full-time (Stipendiary and Non-Stipendiary Category)


For all the candidates under this category, admission allotment shall be made strictly through GATE Score, the
choices opted and the category of the candidates.

(ii) M.Tech. Sponsored and Part-time Category / M.Sc. / MSW


Selection under these categories will be done on the basis of test / interview or any other screening criteria as
decided by the respective departments, which will be notified alongwith the list of shortlisted candidates on the
specified date in the schedule.

(iii) Ph.D. (All Categories)


Selection will be based on test / interview to be conducted by respective departments and would be notified
alongwith the list of shortlisted candidates.
8. Allotment / Counseling Procedure
8.1 For M.Tech. Full-time (Stipendiary and Non-Stipendiary)

The allotment will be done in two phases. In the first phase there will be three rounds of allotment. These
allotments will be done on the basis of GATE score, choices filled by the candidates and their respective category.
Phase I: First round of allotment will be displayed on 10th June, 2011.
- Candidates will have to give their acceptance using their username and password between 11th
to 15th June, 2011.
- Candidates who fail to give their acceptance within the schedule dates shall not be considered
for subsequent rounds of allotments.
- Vacancies created due to non-acceptance of allotment would be filled through a sliding process
amongst the allotted and accepted candidates based on their merit and choices.
- Results of second round of allotment (after sliding) shall be displayed on 17th June, 2011.
- Newly allotted candidates shall be required to give their acceptance using their respective
username and password between 18th to 21st June, 2011.
- Third round of allotment (if necessary) will be done after sliding on 24th June, 2011.

8.2 For M.Tech. (Sponsored / Part-time) / M.Sc./ MSW and Ph.D. all categories

Names of shortlisted candidates shall be displayed on the website on 7th June with details of test / interview to be

Important Notes:
(i) Separate application forms should be filled for courses offered by different departments along with the
prescribed fee. However, separate fee is not to be paid for separate courses offered by the same department.
(ii) The admission to M.Tech. programme will be based on the Score / Percentile secured by the candidate at the
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE).
(iii) No separate letter will be sent by the institute for attending the test/interview/Counseling.
(iv) Candidates are advised to visit Institute website www.mnnit.ac.in for regular update.
(v) The names of the short listed candidates shall also be displayed on the Notice Board of the Departments. The
test and/or counseling will commence from 10.00 A.M.
(vi) No candidate shall be considered for counseling without the result of the qualifying examination. However as
a special case, if the results are not available, they should produce proof that they have completed all the
requirement of qualifying examination from the Director / Principal of the Institute. In such cases Final mark
sheet should be submitted on the day of counseling/registration, otherwise admission will be automatically
cancelled.

The candidates are required to bring the following documents with them at the time of physical reporting/interview/

All GATE qualified candidates admitted to a full-time programme in M.Tech. (except under non-stipendiary
category) are eligible for scholarship subject to the laid down norms of the MHRD, Govt. of India.
In case a candidate leaves the programme in-between, he/she will have to refund the entire money drawn by
him/her as scholarship. Beside this he/she will have to clear all the dues pending against him/her.
