WHAT’S THE
DIFFERENCE
BETWEEN
GOOGLE AND
YAHOO! ?
Hmmm.. 👀
🤔 Well,

First of all, I thought that Google and Yahoo are the same,
they are both search engines.
According to BoostBlog, Google is a search engine, but
Yahoo is somehow not, but the same with some certain
features. Yahoo is a web portal with a search engine
powered by Bing.
What’s about them?

Google Yahoo!
Yahoo! is one of the
A multinational technology
Internet's leading search
company that specializes in
engines. It is also the largest
Internet-related services and
Web portal, providing links to
products.
thousands of other websites
01.

HOMEPAGE
Let’s compare what they look like.
GOOGLE
Google has a minimalist design. As
a user, it looks very easy to use,
intuitive, and fast. Since it’s
minimalist, the homepage is simple,
and because it’s simple, its load
time is fast.
Dinosaur Game
There’s a bonus if ever there’s a
connection problem, there’s a pixelated
dinosaur game - built-in browser game
that provides entertainment or any
emotional fulfillment. So instead of getting
frustrated, users will end up playing the
game and it was a nice strategy to make
a good user experience.
YAHOO!
There’s a lot of things going on in
Yahoo’s homepage. There are lots
of services that is visible in its
homepage which causes confusion
and it’s overwhelming. Though they
have a feature where you can
customize your homepage and it’s
very adaptive so it’s not bad at all.

SEARCH
RESULTS
I entered same keywords and the results varies.
Google’s search results.
🤓💻🧐LET’S START WITH GOOGLE

Google’s algorithm is known to be much better than any other search engine. Google mostly favors
the quality content over well-established links and pages. Google has its ways of determining
whether or not the content or the website is valuable to its users. They determine the relevance
primarily on their PageRank algorithm. This will help Google essentially say that a site that has more
inbound links than their competitors is likely a better site. Thus, it should rank higher. Google also
adapted by changing the ranking algorithm and now, there are elements of authority applied to the
PageRank algorithm. So, once the pages are crawled and indexed by Googlebot, they are returned
to Google for ranking. This is through inbound links in a website. Inbound links, also known as
backlinks, occur when another website links back to your site. These inbound links act as an
indicator that your site has high-quality content, making these links one of the most important
elements in some algorithms Google has.
Yahoo’s search results.
🟪😁❕YAHOO!

Yahoo’s internet search is powered by Bing, although Yahoo controls the design and results
displayed on its SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). Yahoo search isn’t much different from
Google. Yahoo analyzes pages using many factors to determine relevance to a search query, and
the results of that analysis are what the user sees when they perform a query. However, Yahoo
placed a lot of emphasis on the homepage of a given site, with less emphasis on inbound links, or
even the other site pages. Yahoo tends to rank inbound links differently than Google. When we
perform a link check on Google and the same check on Yahoo, the Google results almost always
tend to be lower. It is because Google only shows a snapshot of the “relevant” links whereas YAhoo
shows them “all” regardless of relevance. In short, Yahoo is a categorical index to websites, they
read your site description and your suggested location, and then determine what category to list
your site under. That’s how Yahoo answers queries from users.

Advantages and
Disadvantages
of Google and
Yahoo!. 🙂 🙃
GOOGLE’s Advantage 🙂

● Google is generally quicker among other search engines.

○ Google uses an index of websites. So, when users search for something, all
relevant information will be searched on the index of the internet. This
algorithm searches infinitely faster.
● Google has a lot more sites in its index.
○ There are 56.5 billion web pages indexed through Google and there are only
about 200 million active websites.
● Google is relevant.
○ Google’s mission is to surface high-quality content websites. This will ensure
that its search results are also consistent, accurate, credible, and trustworthy.
GOOGLE’s Advantage 🙂

● Google is a good brand.

○ According to hbr.org, Google brand is one of the most valuable brands in the
world. In 2014, Interbrand placed a valuation of the brand at $107.43 billion,
only trailing the Apple brand value.
● Google has a lot of platforms and tools.
○ Google developers said that it has 7 products with over a billion users: Gmail,
Chrome, Maps, Search, YouTube, Google Play Store and Android. Each
product has corresponding free and premium features.
GOOGLE’s Advantage 🙂

● Google’s entire focus is the users.

○ With Google, if something is constant then that is change.
○ Change in its algorithms and updates in its algorithms and constantly strive for
bringing in most relevant results to the users in the search results in its billions
of web pages indexed in its database.
● Google ensures safety and security of user data.
○ Google has a world-class infrastructure with an excellent team of people who
are always monitoring the data centers of google where google stores users
and constantly strives for new upgrades and installation and keep on bettering
the equipment.
GOOGLE’s Advantage 🙂

● CONT...
○ Google believes in transparency with the users so it keeps on revealing deals
and information with users which is one of the main reasons why so many
people trust google and use its products a lot.
GOOGLE’s Disadvantage 🙃

● Limited functionality
○ Despite free services, there are certain softwares, features that need
payments such as monthly subscriptions that give users a new Pixel phone
every two years, premium Google services, device protection, extra cloud
storage, and more.
● Apps only limited to Google apps only.
○ There are Google apps that are only compatible with Google services,
software, or Pixel phones only. However, there are still services that is open to
all kinds of devices or software.
GOOGLE’s Disadvantage 🙃

● Penalizing sites badly.

○ Every new update of google’s algorithms creates a lot of anxiety and
nervousness to hundreds and thousands of bloggers and website owners who
rely on Google for traffic and income. Basically google’s updates hurt a lot of
bloggers and webmasters’ livelihood because they all are dependent on
Google for traffic. With updates in the past like panda and penguin google has
hit hundreds and thousands of webmasters and hit them badly for following
bad SEO practices for ranking high on search engines.
GOOGLE’s Disadvantage 🙃

● Always tracking users.

○ Even without using GPS or google maps, google can still track your location and
your private information through your website searches. This is also one of the
reasons why Google and Facebook are one of the largest companies in terms of
generating ad revenue. Because these 2 companies have a lot of user data and
having more user data you can attract more advertisers and show them the right
ads and earn money.

Youtube, Gmail, Google Productivity Tools (docs, sheets, slides, etc.).

They are all free to use because by keeping them for free to use, Google can get
more people in and more data and information of users in.
YAHOO!’s Advantage 🙂

● Its organic results are just as comprehensive as Bing search.

● Shopping search has more options than many other search engines.
● Yahoo Answers is a useful social platform for academic or
entertainment purposes and is very popular among many people.
● The most complete compared to other search engines.
● Yahoo also provides one of the functions, namely the web catalog.
The link to the help menu can also be recognized well on the login
page with a fairly clear description.
YAHOO!’s Disadvantage 🙃

● Ads are NOT clearly labelled as ads so it’s hard for users to identify
what’s organic vs. what’s not.
● The homepage is complicated and from time to time it will be filled
with videos and any other websites.
● Supporting software is still lacking.
● Long loading time.
Thank
you!
