Barrier Vulnerability On Bow Ties

Internal corrosion of process equipment can be caused by contamination from carbon dioxide, water, acids and other chemicals which leads to stress corrosion cracking from chlorides, sulphides, alkali and nitrates or chemical embrittlement from hydrogen or mercury. External corrosion is caused by aggressive environments from marine or adjacent processes, or under insulation and coatings can provide barriers but degrade over time allowing corrosion.
