MATERIALS NEEDED PLANNING


One 18-piece FAT QUARTER bundle of Tarrington OR Each block consists of a Fat Quarter print,
16-18 fat quarters to include 11 prints & 2 stripes for the either a light or dark stripe, and Cream Texture
blocks, and 3-5 prints for the border appliqué flowers & leaves for the background. You'll construct three
identical blocks from each of ten fat quarters
½ yard Green Paisley for Vine

for a total of thirty blocks. From the eleventh
/8 yard Red Paisley for Inner Border
fat quarter, you'll make one block with the light
¾ yard Stripe for Binding stripe and another with a dark stripe for a total
1 ¼ yards Cream Packed Floral for Sashing of thirty-two blocks.
1 3/8 yards Cream Tossed Floral for Setting Triangles
The other fat quarters and leftovers from the
1 5/8 yards Cream Texture for Block Background
fat quarters used to make the blocks will be
2 3/8 yards Black Texture for Outer Border and Sashing Posts needed to make the flowers and leaves for the
7 ½ yards 45"-wide or 2 ½ yards 108"-wide backing appliqué border. Make sure to choose light
Frixion Heat Erase Pen OR Silver Marking Pencil and/or brighter prints that will stand out
½"-wide Bias Press Bar against the Black Texture. Sew as much of the
Neutral thread for piecing appliqué as possible prior to attaching the
outer borders to the quilt.

From EACH of ELEVEN Fat Quarters for blocks, cut:
Two 4 5/8 x 21" strips, recut into six 4 5/8 " squares, cut in half once to make (12) B triangles and (3) 2" C squares
One 2 ¾ x 21" strip, recut into six 2 ¾" squares

From EACH of the Light Stripe and Dark Stripe, cut:


Seven 2 3/8 x 21" strips

From the Green Paisley, cut:


1 ½” x 240” of bias cut strips from a 24 x 18” rectangle

From the remaining Fat Quarters, cut:

From the Red Paisley, cut:


Eight 2 x WOF strips, sewn together in pairs along short ends and recut into
Two 2 x 77 ¼" Side Inner Borders
Two 2 x 65 3/8" Top/Bottom Inner Borders

From the Stripe, cut:


Ten 2 ½" x WOF strips, joined together end-to-end to create continuous binding

From the Cream Packed Floral, cut:
Four 9 ½" x WOF strips, recut into (80) 2 x 9 ½" D Sashing Rectangles

From the Cream Tossed Floral, cut:


Two 17" x WOF strips, recut into (4) 17" squares, cut in half twice diagonally to make (16) E triangles*
Two 8 ½" squares, cut in half once to make four F triangles

From the Cream Texture, cut:


Seven 2 3/8" x WOF strips, recut into (14) 2 3/8 x 21" strips
Thirteen 2 ¾" x WOF strips, recut into (64) 2 ¾ squares and *Only 14 needed.

Two 7 1/2" x 79 3/8" Top/Bottom Outer Borders

From the 45"-wide Backing, cut:


Three 87" x WOF panels, joined together along long sides to make an 87 x 120" (approx.) backing

SEWING
1. Sew a Light Stripe and Cream Texture 2 3/8" wide strip together as shown in
Diagram I. Press seams toward Stripe fabric. Cross cut into (10) 2"-wide Center
Segments. Repeat with remaining Light Stripe strips and (6) Cream Texture strips to 2" Diagram I
make a total of (64) Light Stripe Center Segments.

2. In a similar manner, make (64) Dark Stripe Center Segments.

3. To make one set of three identical blocks, gather the following:

(6) 2 ¾" squares, (12) B triangles, and (1) C square cut from one of the fat quarters
(6) 2 ¾" squares, (24) A triangles cut from the Cream Texture
(12) Light or Dark Stripe Center Segments

4. Using a silver marking pencil, draw a line from corner to corner on the wrong side of the

Cream Texture squares as shown in Diagram II.

5. Place a Cream Texture square on top of a print fabric square, right sides together. Sew ¼” from A
both sides of drawn line. Press to set the seam. Cut on drawn line and press seams toward darker
fabric. Half Square triangles should measure 2 3/8" square from raw edge to raw edge. Repeat to
make a total of (12). Diagram III A

6. Sew a Cream Texture A triangle to adjacent sides of a Half
Square Triangle. Press seams toward A triangles. Then sew a B Diagram IV
triangle to create a Four Corners Unit. Press seam toward B
triangle. Unit should measure 4 ¼" square from raw edge to raw edge.
Make a total of (12). Diagram IV.

7. Arrange (4) Four Corners Units, (4) Light Stripe Center Segments, and one C square
as shown in the Block Assembly Diagram. Sew together in rows, pressing seams toward
the Light Stripe Center Segments. Then, sew together the rows, pressing seams toward
block center. Block should measure 9 ½" square from raw edge to raw edge.

ASSEMBLY
9. Arrange blocks, Black Texture C squares, Cream Packed Floral D Sashing Rectangles, Cream
Tossed Floral E and F triangles as shown in the Quilt Center Assembly Diagram. Sew blocks
together alternately with D Sashing Rectangles, press seams toward sashing. Sew C squares
together alternately with D sashing Rectangles, pressing seams toward sashing. Sew together in
diagonal rows. Then, sew together the rows, pressing seams toward sashing.

10. Inner Border. Sew the Red Paisley Side Inner Borders to quilt. Then Sew the
Top/Bottom Inner Borders to quilt. Press seams toward border. Quilt Assembly Diagram

11. Appliqué Vine. Prepare the vine by joining the Green Paisley bias strips end to end. Fold the bias-cut strip in half,
wrong sides together. Stitch ¼” from raw edge. Press tube flat, centering seam allowance
on back so raw edge in not visible from front. Trim seam if necessary. Using a ½” Bias Press
Bar makes pressing faster and easier. Diagram V
12. Prepare the H-M patches for appliqué using the method you prefer.

Top/Bottom Borders

13. Applique a top and bottom border as shown in Diagram VI. The applique pattern on these borders
is repeated twice and the K-L Flower is centered so that it is in the border corner once the borders are
attached to the quilt. Be sure to tuck the end of the vine under the K-L Flower and the I-J Flower.

14. Appliqué two side borders as shown in Diagram VII. Please note that the Side Borders have the
applique pattern reversed.

15. Sew the Side Outer Borders to the quilt first. Then, sew the Top/Bottom Outer Borders to the
quilt. Press seams toward the Inner Border.

FINISHING
16. Layer top, batting, and backing. Quilt as desired.

17. Bind with the Stripe fabric.
