Aim and objectives
Counters are used in digital electronics for counting purpose, they can count specific event
happening in the circuit. For example, in UP counter a counter increases count for every rising
edge of clock. Not only counting, a counter can follow the certain sequence based on our
design like any random sequence 0,1,3,2… .They can also be designed with the help of flip
flops.
This is the circuit diagram that show the connection of4026 ic and 7 segment display
In the circuit, pin No.10,12,13,9,11,6 and 7 of 4026ic are joined to a, b, c, d, e ,f and g pins of the
common cathode display with 220 ohm resisters
Pin no 1 is connected with 220-ohm resistor, a led and push button(input).
Pin no 3 is connected to power supply and pin no 15 is to ground
We can also replace any other input sensor instead of using push button.

Project report
Introduction
A Counter is a device which stores (and sometimes displays) the number of times a particular
event or process has occurred, often in relationship to a clock signal. Counters are used in
digital electronics for counting purpose, they can count specific event happening in the circuit.
For example, in UP counter a counter increases count for every rising edge of clock. Not only
counting, a counter can follow the certain sequence based on our design like any random
sequence 0,1,3,2…They can also be designed with the help of flip flops. A seven-segment
display is a form of electronic display device for displaying decimal numerals that is an
alternative to the more complex dot matrix displays. Seven-segment displays are widely used
in digital clocks, electronic meters, basic calculators, and other electronic devices that display
numerical information.
System specifications
Eight 220 ohm resisters
One 4026 ic
One 7 segments common cathode display
One led
One push buttons (we can also use any other sensors instead of using push button)
This is the circuit diagram that show the connection of4026 ic and 7 segment display
In the circuit, pin No.10,12,13,9,11,6 and 7 of 4026ic are joined to a, b, c, d, e ,f and g pins of the

When we apply the power supply the display will show the number 0

When we push the button, led will light and the number will change to 1
Cost
4026 ic = 400ks
7 segments common cathode display= 400ks
220 ohm resistors= (8)=300ks
Led = 20 ks
Circuit board= 3000ks
Push button= 100ks
Jumpers =(20)=100ks
Analysis
Simulation and practical are not different and they all are the same.
Conclusion
Nowadays many people are using counters in everywhere in road, office etc because it is very
useful in our daily life processes and work places. And it can also use in car parking, other
securities and many laces that will be useful for us in present and future. I think it is a not only
good but also very useful project. We can also extent the numbers 0-99 by using two 4026 ic and
2 common cathode displays.
