Self-Development

Grade and Section: STEM 12-A Date: 09-15-2021

LESSON 2 Developing the Whole Person

What’s In

Let’s try to answer the following questions succinctly.

1. How do you feel today?

I am grateful today because God gave me and my family another day to live. I’m also delighted

today since I'm well and my family is united during the midst of the pandemic. I am also pretty

tired, but I am happy that I finally have time to relax. My week is coming to an end which makes

me feel accomplished and I feel that I have a big weight off my shoulders. The weekend coming

is making me feel determined and the weeks passing are making me excited to finish the quarter.

I mean, how do I really feel? I really do feel like I am happy. The weather however has had an

effect on my mood. By the way, I had school today at 8:30 AM which didn’t make me feel the

greatest and ending at 4:00 PM, has not made me the happiest either. However, it has to be done.

2. What did you do for your physical and social activities for the past few days?

I always accomplish our household chores in our home for my physical activity just like washing

the dishes, cleaning, cooking, and mapping. For added exercise, I listen to music while doing my

housework which will add some activity to my day and it will add some fun to my chores. These

past few days I was also able to rode my bicycle for my physical activities, I also played badminton

together with my siblings, and for my social activities I talk to my loved ones and friends.

3. Did you participate in any religious activities recently?

I don't think I've been actively participated in religious activities recently since we're in the midst

of a pandemic, and it's not safe to go out and participate in any religious activities or gatherings
owing to the threat of COVID-19 and its new variant, which is known as the Delta Variant. As a

result, my family and I prioritize our safety and take extra precautions. But, even in our current

situation, I make sure to maintain and keep my faith in God by participating in virtual religious

activities, just like I did lately. I keep my faith in God alive by observing virtual masses on our

television every Sunday or if not on the television, we turn on our radio to listen to the virtual mass

on the radio.

4. How are these physical, social, spiritual, and psychological activities affect or influence you

as a person?

As far as I can tell we grow in our ability to connect with others and expand our theological

awareness, as well as in our ability to make the best choices for ourselves and others. Furthermore,

physical, spiritual, social, and psychological activities affect or influence me as a person by slowly

knowing and finding who really I am. It makes me realize what my strengths and weaknesses are

and slowly making me the best version of myself. I also made a bigger connection with God with

a greater level of sense of connectedness. I have also engaged and retained more social

relationships, which also gave me a sense of meaning and purpose in life as well as a connection

to a source larger than myself.

Reflect on your drawing by answering the following questions.

1. How do you describe the activity? How does your tree relate to you and your life?

The activity was pretty good and I can say that I have a big family, got many achievements at my

age right now and a lot of good memories. The activity made me understand and remember

important and memorable things that happened in my life. However, the tree relates to me in a way

that it shows me the important people and memorable experiences that had happened in my life.

This tree makes me reflect on what’s within me, just like in life that I will decide whether I'm

going into this side or the other way around, and at the end of the day, it’s my choice and with the

guidance of the people around me. I’m not around right now without the help of my family and

the one who truly believes in me.

2. Where do you think you are in your drawing? Which part of the tree do you belong?

I can say that I am the tree itself and all the leaves, flowers, branches, roots and fruits are the people

and experiences that molded and made me who I am right now. Moreover, I can say that, from the

roots to branches are those people who took care of me and love me unconditionally, to the flowers

and leaves are trials and chances to grow up and find myself, and lastly the fruit, which is the

outcome of one’s work or efforts that are made by the people around me and that’s me.

3. Do you feel any strange emotions when you draw and write the name/s for the roots? Why?

Yes, I felt strange emotions while typing the names for the roots because it made me think that I’m

indeed the happiest person in the world because I have all of them. I love all of them and that’s

why I got that not strange, but mixed-emotions tears of joy. Furthermore, I realized that I’m

extremely fortunate because I have those people who have always supported me in all of my

decisions, including my parents and other relatives.

4. How does it feel when you draw the leaves and write the significant events in your life?

It feels so great since I am releasing the pressure and the stress by filling the leaves by the

significant events in my life. I find it memorable since those momentous events molded me as who

I am today. I am the outcome of the lessons I've learned from my past. Also, I feel like it became

all nostalgic and made me wish that if I could only turn back time, but I cannot.

5. Did you miss anything in your drawing? Why did you leave them out? What did you feel

when you decide to do so?

Yes, because some things are better left behind and forgotten to relieve all the pain. No, I’m not

the one who left, somehow they did. But I am trying to stay strong and think that death is a natural

phenomenon in life. They’re may not be here physically but I always felt their presence. I know

they’re always here and guide me and my family.

6. Do you have someone in your life you want to forget? How does it feel when you are reminded

of this person?
No, there’s no person I wanted to forget in my life because all of them are the reason I am living

and they had become part of my life. I know that no relationship’s perfect and we need to accept

each other in order for you to grow. It always makes me feel sad, regretful, nostalgic, and happy.

We shared unforgettable things and it was all worth the time, (and all will be alright in time).

What Is It

Let’s Check How Much You Understand

1. What are the six (6) core elements of developing a whole person? Explain concisely its

relationships.

The six core elements of developing a whole person are physical, emotional, spiritual, social,

psychological, and professional. Focusing on these six aspects of ‘Whole Person Development’

lets us live a balanced, happy, and successful life. Every element plays a really big role to find

thyself. These components are emotions, physical health, spiritual relationship, social relationship,

psychological, and professional life. You will live a happy and healthy life by focusing on these

six facets of Whole Person Growth. However, emotions are a subjective state of mind. Physical

health promotes proper care of our bodies for optimal health and functioning. Spiritual health is

achieved when you feel at peace with life. Social relationship refers to the connections that exist

between people who have recurring interactions that are perceived by the participants to have

personal meaning. Psychologically is a way that affects the mind or relates to the emotional state

of a person. Lastly, professional life is the particular occupation for which you are trained.

2. In your own opinion, how do prayers and meditations influence a man’s personal

development?

Prayers and meditations, in the most visible aspect of our lives, bring us back to where we came

from. When we meditate regularly and begin to elevate the emotional, mental, physical, and

spiritual parts of our life we can experience greater fulfillment, happiness, confidence, and peace

of mind in all areas of our life. And can help provide some relief and strengthen our ability to fight

impure desires, materialistic or sensual limitations. You will achieve greater satisfaction, pleasure,
trust, and peace of mind in all areas of your life if you meditate daily and begin to elevate the

physical, social, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your life. Moreover, it also influences a person

by promoting compassion, positive relationship, and also a sense of purpose, honesty, optimism,

and inner peace.

What’s More

Answer the questions below succinctly.

1. What is your understanding or insights about the selection?

In my own understanding, the selection is all about assessing yourself, comprehending every part

of you with the path of God. If you fully understand yourself and found yourself in the arms of

God, you can live in prosperity, successful, and meaningful pieces of life. From what I also

understand, we are all God’s creation. God gives us this life to understand the different angles in

life, to explore his creations, and by the help of exploring, we can slowly understand ourselves and

his other creations. Similarly, I understand that everything about us is a reflection of some of the

most important aspects of God's magnificent and flawless creation. We have been regarded as a

perfect work of art created by God's hands since conception. Everything around me, including

yourself, is a representation of God's presence. The memories and emotional states that developed

while we were working on our life's projects helped us see and comprehend ourselves or our life

from many perspectives, which improved our self-awareness. You can live more successfully and

have a more successful life if you fully understand yourself and your personality.

2. How do you describe yourself as God’s perfect and beautiful creation?

According to Genesis 1:31, “God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good.”

Seeing myself as God’s beautiful creation is so beautiful. I may not be perfect, but for God I am,

he’s one of the reasons why I believe in myself even sometimes I blame myself for the bad things

that happened. I may sometimes look into the mirror and said that I wasn’t beautiful, that I’m not

worth it, but God enlighten me that his creations are perfect and beautiful and so am I. We may

stumble and fall, but God is always there to guide us on the right pathway. Nobody is perfect, as
they said. But in the eyes of God, we are the perfect piece, wonderful creation, and uniquely

designed by the hands of God.

3. How helpful are your life’s problems and frustrations in becoming a better person?

Life’s problems and frustration in becoming a better person are helpful, they can motivate us to

prove something better, and it can make me much bolder to face ongoing problems heads-up. Truly

there may be a lot of struggles but it will push us to our limit. But that limit can also lead us to our

improvement and strength as a person. It makes us become tougher and wiser people. It truly

motivates me to prove that I can do something new and better. It is a life lesson for us and we

should make it a motivation to move forward and have a better life.

4. How will you make your life more meaningful?

I can make my life more meaningful by loving myself even more and by having a positive attitude.

In my opinion, loving yourself is one of the most powerful weapons because you will be great and

contented with what you have. And having a positive attitude is an act of greatness and it will lead

you to have a joyful life. What’s more is that by finding a balance between pursuing my happiness

and meaning, by accepting who I am, by helping others, and by finally authoring our own life story

together with God, because he is the purpose for all of these things and the one who truly makes

our lives more meaningful. With that, I can make my life more meaningful. Life will be meaningful

if we simply follow God. Besides, making my life more meaningful means expressing myself

more, choosing honesty, making a difference in tiny ways, pursuing my passion, and living with

compassion.
