Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi everyone, my name is Joe Bradford, I am eleven years old and I live in a small house in Boston, so I am
American. We are on the fourth Thursday of November, so it is Thanksgiving today. My uncles,
aunts and cousins have came (come) from different parts of the USA to be
all together tonight for Thanksgiving dinner. My mum have spent (spend) all day preparing the biggest
meal of the year. She have cooked cook) a very big turkey with potatoes , peas and cranberry sauce. She
have made make) a big pumpkin pie. Thanksgiving have always been (be) one of my favourite Holiday
because I meet all my family. But Thanksgiving isn´t just a question of good food, it refers to the
construction of
our country. I very well know what I am talking about because my great great great ……grandfather was
(be) William Bradford and he was (be) aboard the Mayflower with his wife Dorothy in 1620 when they
sailed (sail) across the Atlantic because they wanted
(want) to start a new life. But all didn’t go (not/ go) well because it was be) winter when they arrived
(arrive) and they didn’t have (not / have) enough to eat so half of them died die). But happily, they
received (receive) help from the native Americans or Indians as they called call) them then. They showed
(show) the Pilgrims how to grow new plants there such as corn or to hunt birds like turkeys. Thanks to that
help they could can) survive and other pilgrims came (come) and settled settle).
After one year the Pilgrims invited (invite) the native Americans, their new friends for a feast which then
last last) three days.
Unfortunately white Americans haven’t been (not/ be) very respectful of the first inhabitants of
the country in the following centuries. Yet Abraham Lincoln have made (make) Thanksgiving a
national holidays and today it became (become) the most celebrated festival of the year, and I have always
liked (like) it because the day after we can start our Christmas shopping too
on Black Friday. That is why we all thank God for all the things that we have. I have
just watched (watch)the president pardoning a turkey at the White House, since it is a very bad day for
these poor birds !!So happy Thanksgiving to you all !:)
